Dear Cynthia,
President Obama made a campaign promise to support a better food system, but three years later, we're still waiting for him to come through. So this Wednesday, we're harnessing grassroots power to make sure that President Obama supports fair food and keeps his campaign promise. Join us! Spread the word and make a call this Wednesday.
President Obama knows that our food system isn't fair and that it doesn't work for farmers and consumers that want healthy, safe and sustainably-produced food. That's why he made a promise to help level the playing field for small farmers in the face of pressures from the corporate farming industry — and we've waited long enough for that promise to come through.
Back in February, we generated thousands of calls to the White House to ask President Obama to implement the Fair Farm Rules: a set of common-sense rules passed in the 2008 Farm Bill that would give small farmers protection against some of the worst abuses of corporate agribusiness. June 22nd marks the one-year anniversary of the introduction of the Fair Farm Rules by the Obama Administration's USDA.
Mark your calendar: Make a call to the White House to pass the fair farm rules this Wednesday.
It's unbelievable that after a year, the USDA and the Obama administration still haven't implemented these rules that would offer small farmers basic protections against blatant abuses by corporate agriculture.
We're letting the President know that we won't be ignored with our National Day of Action this Wednesday, June 22nd. We're planning to generate even more calls, and send an even louder message, demanding that the White House support fair food and small farmers — and we hope you'll join us.
Join us by calling on President Obama to finalize these long-overdue rules on Wednesday, June 22nd.
