Our ABC group yesterday ended up seeing 14 duck species at Sabattus Pond . After a slow start at Martin's Point, we found more ducks at Riley Road, including a few distant Northern Pintails and American Wigeons. After some time looking through the ducks from the south-end beach, we were able to pick out a Gadwall (rare in eBird) and Long-tailed Duck (unusual). The usual high numbers of Ruddy Ducks and Scaup were present along with high numbers of Common Mergansers and Green-winged Teal. There were Snow Buntings reported at the South End beach yesterday, but our group didn't run into them. Here's the full list with some distant photos: https://ebird.org/checklist/S283517197

If anyone is interested in seeing Eurasian Wigeons not too far away, two of them have been in Gray for the last week in the ponds behind the middle school. Here's a list and pictures from yesterday: https://ebird.org/checklist/S283572363

Keep your eyes and ears open for northern finches and friends. Evening Grosbeaks, Pine Siskins, Pine Grosbeaks, Redpolls, and Bohemian Waxwings have started to show up in Maine (particularly the first two). Hopefully this means many more as the fall and winter progress!

Happy birding,
Glenn
