Hi everyone!

Has anybody taken their tot to the dentist yet? When are we supposed to go for the first time?

And can anyone suggest a pediatric dentist in the area? I mostly want to make sure I'm doing a good job brushing ;)

Thanks so much!
Tara (mom to G, 2.5)

We've taken our older son to Brooklyn Heights Pediatric Dentistry on Atlantic and they're very nice there--toys in the waiting area, TV/DVD player mounted on the ceiling for the cleaning, friendly hygienist and dentist, and a little prize after you finish.  Our pediatrician recommends going before the three year check-up, so we haven't taken our two and a half year old yet--soon though!  Best wishes, -Susie, mom to G & B

Just be careful with Brooklyn heights pediatric dentistry.  We went there with my older son and liked them but they made some costly recommendations  that turned out to be completely unnecessary. They recommended that we seal all of my older sons back baby teeth when he was 3.5. My dentist said it was ridiculous to do that with baby teeth ( as did my MIL who worked for a dentist for years). We didn't do it and I didn't trust them after that and we switched to dr pollock at park slope family dentistry on 5th ave and have been very happy with him (he also said the tooth sealing was unnecessary). Dr pollock is also in network with a number of insurance carriers which makes him a lot cheaper. It isn't the dental Disney world of dr lau  but that said Erik was GREAT when we took him to see dr pollock in February, MUCH better than my older son ever was with dr lau, even with the tv and bells and whistles at brooklyn height predicate if dentistry.

Just my experience. ;)

Hi guys!  We took Colm to Dr. Mindy on 2nd place a few months ago and she was fantastic.  Totally had him captivated and we still talk about "how Dr. Mindy would want him to brush his teeth".  One thing i really like is that she has a daughter who is two-ish so she knows a thing or two about kids that age.  Her office was also extremely organized and responsive in terms of getting us into their system, confirming with insurance, confirming appointment via text and email, etc.  Would highly recommend.
