Hi All:

Happy spring. We are headed to London tomorrow. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how to work with the time change while there (and once we get back). We took Livia to London once before - when she was 1 and not really walking - we were there such a short time we kept her on NY time. But that won't work for this longer trip and since she's so much more active we need to get outdoors more.

Thank you for any thoughts on this - would love to hear your experiences. Also with long plane trips at 2.5!

Hope you all are well.

My husband has family in the UK. I actually LOVED the time difference in London. Gwen and we were all on NY time for a while, but that just meant we stayed up later and slept in later (and when can you say you last "slept in" with a toddler). We also went to Italy this past summer when she was a bit older and the same thing happened. It all works out eventually and will be ok. Of course, there were plenty of stressful moments too! Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to alter the effects of jetlag for your child or you. Hard to predict what will happen on the plane. Gwen literally screamed the entire night flight from JFK to Rome this past summer. We were so embarrassed. But we got over it and had a wonderful trip. She is more used to screen time now, so that helps. On the flight back home, it was much easier. A lot of ipad time and walking around the cabin. Good luck and have fun!

I would just remember to bring extra clothes for the plane. We have done several 5+ hour plane rides with Gabe, but the turbulence got to him on the little two-hour flight to Florida last week. I'll spare you the details, but.. bring wipes and clothes in your carry-on. Lots of them. For all travelers! Just in case..

As for activities: I basically went with a bag of new tricks. I brought a new knock-knock joke book on a previous trip, which he never saw before and thought was hilarious. That was good for about 15 minutes :) I also picked up a few new travel-friendly games that he never saw before -- one was like colorforms and he enjoyed that for quite a while. We also went to a restaurant recently and they had a little etch-a-sketch, and thought that would also work really well on a plane. And.. kid earphones.

Happy travels!
