Hi,

I got the below information from my onsite lead who frequently travels through London Heathrow terminal. Hope this information is a very valuable one.

Thanks

Raghavendra,

not sure how much advice I can provide on this as the last time I used Heathrow was in February and I have never passed through as an in transit passenger.

However, one of the main security issues a normal traveller has is on restrictions around what you can carry on in your hand luggage. I think it is still true to say that you can't carry liquids, sharp objects e.g. knives, scissors, etc., cans, drinks, etc. through to the departure lounges and beyond.

As an in-transit passenger this may not affect you but I can't be sure. Better to be safe rather than sorry. There will be x-ray security scanning of any luggage, bags, coats, jackets, etc. You will need to take off any metal items, e.g. belts, watches, mobiles, cameras, coins and pass them through the machines as well. You will have to take off any coats and jackets and have them x-rayed. You may also be asked to remove your shoes and have them scanned as well - I always seem to get caught with that one.

There will also be personal scanning and maybe hand searches as well. It is just really one big hassle that you have to get used to.

Different airports seem to have different standards when it comes to checking luggage that has passed through the scanner - for instance, when I was flying regularly each week from Birmingham to Aberdeen, I would always be ok in Birmingham but 9 times out of 10 my luggage would be hand searched in Aberdeen. Most frustrating - especially on the return flight when after a week in Aberdeen my luggage was basically just dirty clothes.

Hope that helps

Subject: Security Checks in London Heathrow Terminal

Hi Nigel,

I along with 2 of my friends are traveling to Dusseldorf (Germany) in British Airways via London Heathrow terminal. We have to catch a connecting flight from Heathrow terminal. We have roughly about 2:25 mins to catch the connecting flight.

This airport has been news for one or the other reasons recently. Basically I wanted to know how much time it will take to complete the security checks as I heard from some of friends that there will be some hassles around during the security check up. Just wanted to know what is the ground reality.

Also if you have any suggestions to speedup the security checks please let me know.

Many Thanks

Raghavendra
