Join Audubon of Kansas (AOK) as we celebrate the 5th Annual Kansas Lek Treks Prairie-Chicken Festival and its continued impact in Hays, Kansas.
Tuesday, February 17 3:00 PM
Sternberg Museum of Natural History
3000 Sternberg Drive, Hays, KS 67601
The event will include remarks from The Chamber in Hays, Kansas, Dr. Jackie Augustine, Executive Director of Audubon of Kansas, and Dr. Reese Barrick, Director of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, followed by light refreshments.
The presence of prairie-chickens signals a healthy prairie landscape. Each spring, from mid-March to mid-May, males gather at leks to perform elaborate displays and attract mates. This remarkable natural spectacle draws visitors from across the United States to Hays and Northwest Kansas.
This milestone would not be possible without the strong support of partners like the Sternberg Museum of Natural History and the local communities of Ellis, Trego, and Gove Counties. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this special moment.
