At the beginning of each quarter you will receive an email from me with a list of our upcoming events. See below for a snapshot of what is happening from April to June!

 

April 

It's officially Kansas Lek Treks week with a busy month ahead! 


4/6-4/8: Pre-Festival: Sharp-tailed Grouse Tour


4/9-4/12: Kansas Lek Treks Prairie-Chicken Festival 

There are two special events open to the public on Saturday, April 11: 

  • 1:00 PM at the Hays Public Library | The Birds of the Great Plains: Through Our Lens by Gabriel Rivera and Jennifer Blankenship
  • 7:30 PM at the FHSU Memorial Union, Ballroom | Special Keynote Event: “Abundant Life: Prairie-chickens as Icons of the American Landscape” with Kenn Kaufman (see attached poster) 
New this year, we're launching the Prairie Picks Online Auction. Final edits are still being made but be sure to get a sneak peek. 

4/13-4/15: Post-Festival: Sharp-tailed Grouse Tour

4/18: Earth Day at the Topeka Zoo

Find AOK at this "PARTY FOR THE PLANET," an annual community celebration dedicated to protecting the world we share.


4/22: Earth Day | Make Twice the Impact this Earth Month


4/24: Salina Reads Happy Hour Book Discussion

Enjoy light appetizers and lively conversation while delving into Fuzz: When Nature Breaks The Law through a panel discussion including Dr. Jackie Augustine, AOK Executive Director.


4/25: Trails & Bird Tales
Greenbush Camp & Retreat Center

8:00-10:30 AM

AOK will be present at this free, family event featuring an adventurous morning of hiking and bird watching. Seeking volunteers to assist at the event table. If available, contact Sam Richards (s...@audubonofkansas.org). 


4/25: Plants for Birds

Join Dr. Jackie Augustine, AOK Executive Director, in learning how you can make your backyard a wildlife haven by planting native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.


May 

5/1-5/2: Big Kansas Road Trip
Humboldt, KS (varies) 
Join Samuel Richards, AOK's Kansas Protected Areas Manager, for guided nature walks along the Neosho River Park.


5/4-5/8: Rail Surveys (Sora, Virginia Rail) at Hutton Ranch with Jackie Augustine


5/9: International Migratory Bird Day


5/16: Open House at Achterberg Farm 

Beginning at the Lincoln County Historical Museum

Learn about Connie Achterberg, then caravan to the Achterberg Wildlife-Friendly Demonstration Farm for a nature hike around the remnants of the homestead.  


June 

6/3-6/7: Rail Surveys (Breeding Bird) at Hutton Ranch with Jackie Augustine 

6/17-6/18: Sandhills Ranch Expo (Bassett) led by Amy Meyer 

6/20: Board of Trustees Meeting (Salina)

Stay tuned for details from your Executive Committee. 

6/27: VIP Donor Appreciation @ Sandhills Brewing Hutchinson

More details will follow, but board member presence at this event is encouraged.
