Hi folks,

I downloaded the calibration file for my iMM-6 microphone as a. txt file from the Dayton Audio website. Then I renamed it as a. cal file as per Dayton Audio's instructions. According to Dayton Audio, it should be possible to do a 'Load Cal' into AudioTool but this does not appear to be the case in the current version of AudioTool.

How do I go about importing the cal file into AudioTool?

Thanks in advance.

You will need to place your .cal file in the AudioTool directory on your phone. This directory is created the first time you save e.g. a spectrum file (using the Store button). If the .cal file isn't in that directory, AudioTool wont find it.

Let me know if this doesn't help!

Julian

Hi Julian,

Many thanks for your super-quick reply.

I've done exactly what you suggested. Can I assume that AudioTool will correct the response across the entire audio band now that it has imported the iMM-6 cal file?

BTW, I could not find the information you provided for me in the AudioTool instructions. Perhaps it would be worth adding. In particular, I hadn't realized that the AudioTool directory would only be created on saving a spectrum file.

Thanks again!

Regards,

John P Coates

I think this info is in the online manual (linked in the AudioTool menu), but I will check.

Once you have loaded the iMM6 cal file, then the response you see and measure is indeed corrected, according to the file's constants, across the whole audio spectrum. However, it is possible that the internal audio electronics in your phone (which amplify etc. the mic input signal) are not flat. So, ideally, you would make a further correction to the cal levels while comparing with a pro grade analyser. I don't think many people bother going to those lengths.

Hello Julian,

I checked the Audiotool downloadable manual and I could not find anything about installing the cal file. I changed the '.txt' file to a 'cal' file and moved it into the AudioTool folder.

As I plan to use AudioTool on more than one device, it occurred to me that a nice feature of the AudioTool app would be an indicator to show which mic was being used and if the cal file was also in use. Just a thought.

FYI, I also have a semi-pro PC-based acoustics measurement setup. I use a Behringer ECM8000 mic, Behringer Xenyx 802 mic amp/mixer and REW 5 software.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hi chaps,

I recently bought the software and the afore-mentioned Dayton mic.

I also downloaded the calibration file from the Dayton 'site, made the correct file directory in AudioTools, and then dropped my .cal file in the folder.

When I try to import the file, I get an error: "Cannot read from SDCard".

This is confusing, as the file is still visible even when I've shut everything down and unmounted the memory card.

If it helps, here's a link to Dayton's calibration data: http://www.daytonaudio.com/iMM6_Lookup_Tool/iMM_Text/99-02229.txt

Phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, and I'm running software version 6.0.3.

Hopefully this'll be an easy fix as I do rather like this software - very flexible and (combined with the Dayton mic) a quick and cheap way of getting into measuring speakers: even without the calibration file, my cheapie 2.1 computer system never sounded better.

TIA,

Chris
