I would like to monitor environmental sound over a 12 to 24 hour period by making recordings, and possibly saving/exporting measuremements, on a time interval basis. For example save measurements and recording every 15 minutes. I use a Samsung Note-8 (Android-9) with iMM-6 and UMIK-2 microphones. I am considering apps like MacroDroid and Tasker for automation. I am also considering Splashtop for remote control. Anyone with experience or suggestions? Thanks

Hello
I think there is one gut here on this group that can definitely help you (and many others in this aspect) - Julian himself :)
Ask him and maybe we all be happy when granted automatic file saving, work when in the screen is off (or even in background), touchscreen lock, etc.

I think using automation tools as you describe, is the way to go. There's no reason why AudioTool shouldn't run for days/weeks, so it's just a matter of Saving data periodically. Autosave on a schedule is not something that I have plans to implement at the moment.

There was a guy on here a few years ago who did some very long term measurements using AudioTool, and there may be others who've done it. Hopefully they will chime in if so!

Hello,
I have been doing some long term measurements (Leq, few days) and AudioTool has no problems here (great).
Something bothering is that you either sacrifice the time resolution (the limited buffer) or have to regularly save data manually (no autosave mechanism).
Implementing the (optional) autosave when the buffer is full would perfectly do the job.

By the way, I observed some very frustrating AudioTool behaviour when the buffer has overflown - touching the screen immediatelly deletes all gathered data. No need to say what you feel then after few days of measurements ...

ws0...@gmail.com: yesterday I tried to use MacroDroid to make periodic data saving and yes, it seems possible to write a macro that would do the job.
All the tools/functions are there. Only one trouble I've encountered - couldn't apply a (dynamic) file name.
