So I recruited a visiting electrician to install me a separate AV breaker
panel. It's going to be 60 amp service, with all the house noise hopefully
shorted out by the main house line to the street (150A) before it hits my
garage/AV circuit. The panel is going to be basically directly opposite the
wall with my stereo components, so those #10 wires are going to be *short*.

He is working for $25/hour, and my normal electrician works for $35/hour and
takes many weeks to show up. This guy is going to stay in Los Alamos until he
runs out of work, then go home to Oregon. He is licensed in NM. If any of
you want to hire him too, I'll forward his number.

John,

You are hardcore... does this mean that you will have the ultimate listening
gallery for a future taste test of amp builds?

thanks,

Yeah, my room is pretty sweet. When we first looked at this house I was
already drooling at the space (it was occupied by a pool table at the time).
The other thing nice about it is that it is surrounded on all sides by other
rooms, except on one wall which is a exterior wall, but faced with stone. So
when I first moved in, I turned up the volume really loud and it turns out you
can't really hear noise from the outside. So I rock into the night whenever I
can...

It's also got a home theater in it, but I don't spend nearly as much attention
to tweaking that after the initial install.

I actually don't have that great of stereo gear yet. My turntable is really
nice, and so is my SACD player, but my amps and speakers kind of suck. I'm
working on that... I have a nice big LP collection in there, too.

It's a nice space, and I'm am really glad to have it. Plus Jason can set up
the vendor booth in the hallway 8-)

It is an awesome room indeed, and the um, sound absorbing rear wall of
a couple thousand albums is pretty nice too :)

Let's do another listening party some time!

A random thought: There is an Albuquerque dorkbot group that we could
maybe invite. They are always looking for stuff to check out. The
theme is "people doing strange things with electricity". I think the
level of awesomeness here would certainly qualify :)

Vendor booth - sweet. I have a ton of stuff I need top purge from my basement.

Actually, I'm hoping that you guys will come over to celebrate my new album
that is finally coming out. I've been working on it for years, as a player,
amp-builder, producer, engineer, photographer, keyboard-fixer, and it is
generally a massive event in my life.

The CDs are already in the mail, and the LP won't be ready for a long while
(we don't even have the artwork started). Next weekend might work for me,
assuming the packages arrive as scheduled.

We could combine it with other activities, if folks want to bring over gear
and vending items...

I'm definitely interested. Just say when.
