Ive been using Umik-1 and would like to know if any of you have experience with Umik-2 and Audiolense. Does it provide a better calibration, save time etc? Any perspective is appreciated.

thanks

Hi Bruno,

There are a few discussions about the UMIK-2 on https://www.avnirvana.com with links to other discussions including miniDSP’s site.  It appears there was a few firmware and calibration issues on rollout of the UMIK-2 that has been discovered and is being worked on.

Generated calibration files were off in production and there was a firmware issue that caused different readings to vary based on the sampling frequency selected.  There was also a sensitivity issue with DIRAC.  I don’t know if all of these issues have been resolved and released yet.  miniDSP indicated the calibration SNAFU was production software related (not hardware) and did not require the mic to be re-calibrated, just a new calibration file to be issued.

The UMIK-2 is supposed to have its own custom ASIO driver, but it still has its own clock which means it will have the same issues as the UMIK-1 with respect to separate MIC and DAC clocks.

Sincerely,

Tim
