Hi Aure & Co,

I've been working on an app for the last few months with all the audio based on AudioKit 3. I'm loving it, great work all!

I'm NOT loving XCode 7.3.1 or 7.3 though, and it seems AudioKit doesn't agree with it either, certainly not on my old 2011 Mac.
Recently the playgrounds have stopped producing any sound (screenshot attached - plot is running but no sound).

Same deal with AnalogueSynthX running on the simulators (iPad Pro, iPad Air) - No sound. When I run it on my iPad Air - the sound is there.

The playgrounds are vital for me as I'm building entirely by trial and error. Code, compile and listen will be VERY slow.

Everything is set up as it always worked previously. I've tried AudioKit-3.0.1, 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 - no sound. I've even trashed and re-installed XCode 7.3.1 - still no sound.
I'm considering going back down to XCode 7.2, with AudioKit-3.0.1. That's the last point when everything worked.

Anybody had similar issues or any ideas about a fix?

Thanks!
M

I haven't heard of any problems like this.  From the screenshot, it is clear that AudioKit is processing, but it's not coming out of the output.  I don't want to be snarky and say check your volume, but it has to be something towards that end of the chain.  Are you using any special audio set up or soundflower?  I'm willing to do a screenshare to try to help you determine what it could be.

Hi Aure,

Thanks for the Swift reply, and no offence taken on the snarky front. We must ALWAYS check the obvious first!-)

I DO have Soundflower and that was the first thing I checked re the sound output. Sound is routed to 'Internal Speakers' and responds when I plug in headphones to 'Headphones'. All other apps (Logic, T-Racks, Spotify etc.) on my MacBook are behaving as normal. ONLY XCode refuses to produce sound... And only since 7.3.

I can't find any 'Preference' within XCode for sound output. Do you know if there is one?

It's 5am now in Italy and I'm completely defeated after staring at my screen all day trying to fix this. I'll be back on the attack ASAP (after a much needed power nap) though and a screnshare would be most welcome in case my usual 'Idiot Check' has missed something glaring.

Many thanks again. Yours & teams hard work is TRULY appreciated!-)

Best regards,
Mike

A thousand humble apologies!!

It was worth triple checking with morning fresh eyes. It WAS the audio INPUT that was still routed to Soundflower which was causing the problem. Good to know and all up & running now.

Cheers for a great catch at first attempt and so sorry for the time wasting Muppet Show!!

Many thanks & all the best,
Mike

That's awesome!  I am definitely getting pretty good at being the computer audio whisperer!
