The A2 has a speedo unit that has quite a lot of electronics in it,
including the immobiliser. Trouble is most is useless for the EV.

I think I will design a new speedo unit with just the speedo, 12V
meter, and the Link 10 in it. That way, the main dashboard won't be
altered. But I might need to leave the current speedo unit in the car
and hooked up.

Original speedo gets its speedsignal from hall sensor in gearbox
connected to pin 22 on blue connector behind instruments.

OK can give it a try. Of course I need to know what it is counting -
any idea? The final drive shaft RPM?

I had to code my Audi Satnav to 8 pulses per wheelrev,
but I don't know if that's a calculated value from the dash or not.

If you need schematics, look for elsawin it has all the drawings and
repair and adjustment manuals.

Hello Simon,

the speed sensor counts at fixed ratio from the gearing
final drive shaft. At the moment I don`t have the manual
at home, but if you like can tell you the ratio.

Since the speed sensor signal goes directly to the dash
board instrument, the can bus signal shall be available at
the servo controller for the steering power assist.

About other signals see posting in different thread.

OK Swen, this is interesting. I noticed that one of the half shafts
has a kind of heavy disk/ring on it - is this where the speed sensor
is measuring? Or is it inside the gearbox? Any idea if I can reuse it?
Simplest is of course to use the original sensor on the original
place, then nothing needs to be changed.

I might still use the original instruments - hidden in one of the
front underfloor compartments - only for ensuring the can bus, and
place a new set of instruments in teh dash board.

Hello Simon,
According to "Elsawin" Repair manual, speed sensor is mount on the
diff.
right hand side half shaft is were it gets the signal from.
(Take a look at the gearbox you took out of the car.)
