Received this message (Japio, you want to add anything I made it so
you can post on discussions too):

"I have some idea's about weight distribution in the A2. On both our
A2's (1.4 Tdi) Behind the rear bumper is a counterweight (35KG) to
help making the car more drivable while it is normally very front-
heavy. So it might be a good idea to take this into account. Also to
use the original steering pump, it probably must be reprogrammed,
because it recieves information like speed, steering velocity and some
more from the system's ECU and other controllers on the Can bus.
Regards, Japio"

OK thanks, didn't know about the counterweight. I'll take a look for
it, it is possible that it doesn't exist on mine since it was a petrol
engine and maybe a little lighter.

You'll see I just found that I can fit 40% of the battery cells
directly under the rear seats and the rest I think will go in front.

As for steering, indeed, how to employ the CAN bus is still a mystery
to me, my controller can be linked in but that will take some hacking
I am sure. Hopefully it will work but I expect that if there is no
speed signal either I'll get no power steering (although we think it
works for now) or I'll get full power steering - which I guess at
"speed" will be too much.

Hello Simon,

currently we are not at the stage to test the power steeringg, but
my mechanics should be ready by the end of the week with the diet.

The plan is as follows:
1. if all can signals (speed, position of steering wheel, ... ) are
available w/o the motor controller the power steering will work.
We will try a dry run with the car just with the aux batteries
and no motor controller (drag the car ...)
2. If this does not work the fall back will be to manually enable
the power steering and build a small electronics to turn it of /
disable over 40 km/h.

What do you think?

I checked to day, no counterweight at rear of car. Probably because it
was not a diesel.
