As you all know, the club has a new website thanks to the hard work of Thomas and Russell. What you may not know is the website is still in its infancy and developments are ongoing.
One of the areas yet to be developed is the "Forums" section (currently found under the "Media" menu item). What is there is just a place holder, it could be quite different. The plan is to make it a "better" Chat List. So I'm making an appeal here to the Manager/Moderator of this chat list, or anybody else out here, to put up their hand and take ownership of this new Forum.
It should be an easy job: 1) Offer suggestions about the design of the new Forum; and 2) keep an eye on it (moderate it) once its up & running.
You come up with the ideas, pass them on and Thomas & Russell will make it happen...
For example, many of you would know the
yacf.co.uk Forum. It's pretty active & is a great resource for UK riders. We could have something similar for our club.
Threads could be group into specific headings ( and sub headings):
General ("Check out this pic of my new fat bike", "How awesome is Marianne Vos?", ...)
Advice ("Next week is my first 300k ride, should I take a bivy?", "What tyre pressure should I be running"...)
Tech ("Shimano have a great new gravel groupset, anybody tried it?"...)
Suggestion Box (" Why don't Audax have a gravel super series?")
Victoria
Victoria > Gravel Rides
Victoria > Gravel Rides > Jam for Jamieson
etc..
Access: Could be controlled (ie anyone can view but only members can't contribute..)
Searchable: Keyword, Date, Author
All suggestions are welcome here. But we need someone "take charge", consider the various suggestions, give it a bit of thought, and decide what would work best for us.
Some might say: "Why bother? A lot of the discussion is taken up in Facebook" Yes - but I would argue FB is not ideal for our purpose. Not everyone is on FB, content slips off the end, it becomes very difficult to organise/find particular content.
For The Record (as Matt would say)
Chat List: Current members: 259 (compared with Facebook Audax Australia: 1679 members, not including the 6 Facebook regional groups)
The first thread/topic on this Chat List was 10/09/2010. (Discussing the Checkpoint 45 working bee..., sigh)
Number of threads/topics in the first year (10/09/10 - 10/09/11): 405
Number of threads/topics in the last year (2/11/18 - 2/11/19): 84
