Hey there....
AU Students for Burma

Alternative Break Club

We wanted to check in about your thoughts on next year....with people graduating, moving on, etc., this is a good time to talk to your clubs about who will take over the DELIGHTFUL jobs of signing power, etc.
In the interest of bucking hierarchy and keeping energy and  participation high next fall- here's an idea...
Although Student Activities claims to need a President, Vice, Sec, Treasurer, these titles are actually unnecessary and this can be a restrictive structure for progressively minded clubs that would like to work in a non-hierarchal manner with collective involvement and decision making. Sooo…we wanted to inform you all that all clubs can have more than just four members eligible to sign for all that nasty paperwork of getting tables, contracts, space requests etc. In fact, all Student Activities needs is one "point person" so that they can have an individual to contact (but a club email address can still be where they send all information to). If you are interested in having more members of the clubs you are involved in take on these administrative responsibilities (which can create a more even distribution of work for all and get more people involved in planning, have a stake in the club, etc) the only qualification for signing powers is that they go to the two required workshops in the fall (Club 101 and Financial Workshop). We basically wanted to pass this word on so that you all can pass it along to your list serves if this seems in the interest of the club, so that as many people as possible can go to the workshops in the fall and have signing powers (people can have signing powers for multiple clubs also).

SO BASICALLY, you can sign ALL your club members up to help with these duties if you want to....
The workshops will be available online starting in the fall on the Student Activities page (find at Activities and Events on my.american.edu) on the left side tab labeled Leadership Connections.

PLEASE send me a quick email back letting me know if you are needing any help in getting students signed up, for suggestions about how to get club members excited about these WONDERFUL duties, etc................
Thanks, Laura and your CASJ kids
