CASJ meeting minutes: 2/4/07

• AU Students for Sensible Drug Policy
• Admit into CASJ? Approval tentative, please reply to this email with any concerns.
• Stuff they?re planning :Campus activism and advocacy/ AU?s drug policy, DC community work (education), War On Drugs/Mandatory minimum sentences
• Concerns: Social Justice focus? Maybe they could do something about the racist and classist nature of the War On Drugs? Working with Student Advocacy Center?
• Consensus Workshop
• Thursday, February 8. MGC 205. 7:30 pm.

• World Can?t Wait/Howard Zinn are calling for a student strike on February 15, which is the anniversary of the big, pre-Iraq war, anti-war, demonstration. Also, the congressional vote on appropriations for the war is coming up soon. Some sort of anti-war action would be super! Ideas that were talked about are:
• Hold posters and/or drape banners in ward circle
• Candlelight vigil
• Teach-in on the quad
• Some action involving money or fake money
• Something involving a coffin
• Maybe a coffin covered in fake money
• Let?s figure out listserves/working groups so people can talk to each other about projects that they are working on.
• Visions in Feminism Conference
• Emily Noll is ?interning? for the conference so she?s taking care of logistical stuff.
• But- there?s a workshop that she may need help with later on. More updates to come!

• Palestine Israel Education Project- February 17 seminar about teach-in. PIEJ goes into dc public schools and teaches about the Palestinian-Israeli issue. There will be a teach-in on campus as well. The seminar is $20 per participant and $30 to get the info and materials. MGJ is using its funds to get the materials so that we will have it for future use.
• SJP:
• running low on funds ($165), so they need help and cosponsors, specifically for Palestine Awareness week.
• They have a meeting tomorrow, Monday at 7pm in MGC 245.
• Cultural night is gonna be great (Poets, rappers, dancers, musicians, lots more)!
• March- working group on Palestinian women. Event on 3/20 or 3/21.
• Tuesday, February 6. 7:30. Battelle Atrium. Israel Committee Against Housing Demolition event.

• Monday, February 12. 7:30 pm. Kay Chapel. John Lewis event.
• We should do a film screening for black history month! does anyone have any ideas for a film?
• Beehive Collective wants to come to campus in late April. Everyone at the meeting was down with it! (for more info on the beehive collective see here: http://www.beehivecollective.org/)
• Art After Dark, at Katzen
• Put on an art related event from 8pm-12am
• Get $5000 grant
• Apply for AAD
• for Visions in Feminism maybe

• Body Image Collective (Women?s Initiative)
• Stuff They?re Planning: True Beauty Fashion Show, Eating Disorder Awareness Week, tabling, Scale Smashing! (byos, if you have one!)
• Next meeting: Tuesday. 7:30. McDowell 4^th Floor Lounge.
• DIY skillshares!!!!!
• Screenprinting- February 24. sometime during the day. More info to come.
• Crochet and knitting. Maybe in March. More info to come.

• Students from Jordan want a roundtable of AU students about American activism. Emily Channel and Miriam Wood are going. Tuesday, February 14. 2:30-5:30. More info to come.
• New Meeting Time? How Does Wednesdays at 9:30 pm work? We?d need a new room. Please reply!
