The next event is probably going to be on the 15th August at either
120 Clarendon St or the Telstra Center.

A lot of people have offered to speak at the next event.

What Cloud related topics are people most interested in?

Academic Research?
Users experience trying to incorporate Cloud into their solutions?
Bypassing the bureaucracy of internal IT in order to get things done?
Making the case to business?
Lowering the initial cost for a startup?
Scaling up and down to meeting fluctuating demand?
Lowering ongoing costs for enterprises.
Load testing and creating virtual labs for QA departments?
Some other topic or slant?

Hum.. May be I should create a poll.

Has anyone fired up OpenStack yet? It's like running EC2 and S3 on your own hardware.

The project's fourth release is out in a week or so. Check out the video.

I'd love to hear someone speak about the experiences. I've not set aside the time to play with it yet.

Sorry Geoff, I didn't realise you were talking about an Australian
Computing Society meeting.

Melbourne Cloud User Group is primarily a technical group for hands on
people.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with other groups posting
here about their meetups but perhaps make it clear that it's not a
Melbourne Cloud User Group meetup to avoid confusion.

thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

It is sad but understandable that you would make that distinction.

I am a software developer myself and would rather hear about something
like OpenStack from project team member's who are struggling to turn
raw technology into something with business value than to hear a
vendor explain how his companies product will allow IT departments to
keep bureaucratic control of business units by creating a private
cloud. I don't think communication and people problems are necessarily
amiable to a technical fix.

The Cloud SIG is going through a reboot with the exit of the previous
organizer. Personally I would rather the reboot took a more technical
focus but that will depend on who turns up to the events.

By the way SIG events are free to members and non-members alike,
anyone can turn up.
