Hey folks, I’m curious about what’s the best way to get a piece of plywood and some 2x4s to the shop. I have a Jeep, but not a pickup. I saw some very close lumber stores around the corner but doubt they’d deliver such a small load. Thought about renting a pickup from Home Depot and buying what I need there, but would prefer to shop local. For what it’s worth, I’m making some canine agility equipment (a-frame, maybe a teeter-totter) for my awesome dog. Thanks for any suggestions.

Most lumber stores will make a cut or two for you, so the plywood is in a more manageable size.

Hello,
you’ll probably be able to stack a few 2x4s running lengthwise between the drivers seat at an angle back into the trunk. just make sure they can’t slide into the windshield while you transport them. good luck!

I have been able to fit half sheets (4’x4’) cut by Home Depot in the back of my Jeep, but for this project, I need the length of plywood uncut. I’m hoping for advice on how to get a whole sheet of plywood to the shop. Thanks!

If you have a hitch,  I have a 4x8 trailer you can use.

When the wood is ready for pickup, you could rent the truck from Home Depot and go directly to the lumber supplier and fetch it to the hacker space ASAP, then return the truck back to Home Depot also ASAP.  But it would still add the cost of the hourly rent to the cost of your wood, so might not be worth it.  Otherwise, make friends with someone who will either lend you their truck or drive you.

I have had some luck carrying half-sheets of acrylic on the roof of my sedan, however, I have to put a non-skid mat on the roof to prevent scratching, drive about 30 mph, use significant bungee cords to lash it down, and make sure to angle it so that the wind does not get under it and cause it to lift (I use another sheet to reflect the wind up *over* the acrylic sheets).  It takes me as long or longer to prep it for the ride as the ride itself, and I'm not sure how it would work with full sheets.

I’m going to order some plywood to be delivered this week. Let me know if you would like to add your stuff to the order. It will most likely be from Dakota.
