For the highest "at risk" providers (day to day with known COVID positive patients) what the ideal and most expensive commercial option is this:

Essentially positive pressure hood providing filtered air...kind of an engineering challenge along the lines of the Apollo 13 movie...can absolutely be made of existing technologies..however, it needs to be light, relatively quiet and durable.  I hope one of you fine people is able to make a new patent from something inspired by this.

As an update at Seton Wilco

No actual positive cases admitted to hospital...allowing for false-negative tests and asymptomatic patients I'm happy with that so far because hospital capacity is the commodity we are trying to protect in these early stages so thank you as a working community who has to be hurting financially by the social distancing which is likely contributing most to solving the crisis.  Adding to that ... you are trying to protect those nurses, techs, and respiratory therapists who are most at risk is a testament to the CO-OP.  The lack of PPE is not exaggerated in our area so I can't even imagine what's going on in the larger population centers.

More as I know it...

This is from my sister's hospital in Philly.

Penn medicine consistently ranks as the best in PA and top ten in the country for infectious disease.    What are they giving her?

1 surgical mask and a brown paper bag a week.

,.................

Thank you for all of your efforts, both personal and professional, to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Universal Masking Policy
Beginning as early as 3/25, every GSPP staff member entering a clinical site will receive a surgical mask for use throughout the work day. Masks must be worn at all times.

A New Yorker article by Atul Gawande details how measures like these have helped to slow the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Due to a national shortage of PPE, the mask should be re-used over several days unless soiled or damaged. Click here for FAQs related to mask re-use and storage.

Staff members entering a clinical site will receive a surgical mask for use throughout the day.
Masks must be worn at all times. If employee needs to briefly remove their mask, follow social distancing, 6 foot protocol.

Upon completion of a shift, the mask should be stored in a paper bag for re-use on subsequent days and stored on-site at work. Ask your manager for site-specific details related to storage.
See below for process to remove and store mask.

Working collaboratively with Penn Medicine and Good Shepherd, we are working tirelessly to secure as much inventory as we can to protect you.

Masking Process
Perform hand hygiene.
Remove mask by grasping ear loops.
After removing mask, dirty sides should be folded together before placing in paper bag.
Place mask in paper bag and write full name and department on bag.
If mask is soiled or damaged, notify manager (or clinical coordinator on nights and weekends) for replacement.
Masks to be stored on site in staff locker or area designated by your manager.
Important Mask Reminders
Treat the outside of the mask as potentially infectious.
Avoid touching outer surface of the mask.
Hand hygiene should be performed every time the mask is touched.
Do not touch, pull down or place anywhere besides your face or the paper storage bag.
