I'm really excited about this event and curious if any students have any ideas
of how to better promote the event.
Our primary approaches historically have been:
- Plastering labs and hallways CS and EE students might visit with fliers
about a week before the event (fliers went up tonight).
- Asking a myriad of student organizations to send out an email to their
members:
ASM: http://atxsm.org (obviously)
ACM: http://www.utacm.org/
IEEE: http://ieee.ece.utexas.edu/
EGaDS: http://egads-austin.org/
ELA: http://userweb.cs.utexas.edu/users/ela/
NSC: http://cns.utexas.edu/community/student-organizations/443
TSSA: http://cns.utexas.edu/community/student-organizations/460
WiCS: http://userweb.cs.utexas.edu/~wics/
We've been pretty lousy of building up a Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter/etc
presence. Maybe a tool like Hootsuite might help us manage that better.
Also, if any students have found value with ASM's events, we'd love to have
students mention the event at the beginning of an appropriate class. I'm
pretty sure most professors would be amenable to giving a minute at the
beginning of the class for a small pitch.
Those are the two ideas I have. I'm eager to get some feedback on those, and
also hear any others you all may have. I think it's healthy to reflect on what
we're doing and how we can improve upon it.

I think #atxsm is the hash tag for ASM. It's the domain name, and has a lot
less ambiguity than just ASM.
Also, I just made a bit.ly link for our UpcomingEvents wiki page [1]. It's not
the most attractive page. This gets back to an earlier thread about having a
proper stand-alone site.
