Hi Open Source GISers,
I promised a few of the local GIS user groups that I'd send you all a quick announcement about an ongoing fundraiser for the American Heart Association: this is an annual event that local GIS groups traditionally join together on every year. Since we're a "local GIS group" we've been invited to join in the team's fundraising efforts this year. Read on if interested, but feel free to skip - this isn't strictly atx-osg related. :)
WHAT:
The American Heart Associations's annual Heart Walk, a "free, non-competitive 5k". This is your basic walkathon-style event: raise money for the AHA and walk for fun.
WHEN:
Austin's Heart Walk will be Saturday, October 18th at 8am. Fundraising is open from now through the 18th.
WHERE:
The Heart Walk itself will be at the Long Center in Austin; donations can be made all month online.
HOW IS THIS GIS RELATED?
It's not specifically, but for the past several years, Central TX GIS user groups have banded together to create a walking "team" (this year's team name is "Points, Lines, and Polygons") to raise money for this event. It's just for-fun and gives the GIS groups an outlet for end-of-year fundraising and charitable donations.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
If you're interested in walking, register as a walker and join the "Points, Lines, and Polygons" team online. Soliciting donations is not required to walk, but in order to get the t-shirt you'll want to raise at least $100 in donations.
If you're not interested in walking, but want to donate, submit an online donation to the "Points, Lines & Polygons" team.
And if you're not interested in walking but you do enjoy tasty baked goods, CenTexGIS is holding a bake sale during their quarterly meeting next Wednesday. All proceeds go to "Points, Lines & Polygons".
FOR MORE INFO:
The main organizer for the GIS team this year is Laura Pittman - feel free to get in touch with her at laura....@atkinsglobal.com.
Thanks! I promise this is the one time a year you'll get this sort of spam from me: I'm just keeping our group involved in the "local GIS user community". We now return you to your regularly-scheduled Open Source GIS programs...
