We are basically building a larger version on this http://backyardmetalcasting.com/ccfurnace01.html fueled by propane.

Alex and Jason have supplied all the materials and Jason has already done some of the fabrication. We still need a crucible but Martin mentioned he had one we could use. I don't think the crucible will hold enough aluminum to cast your hammer.

The foundry lid will be lifted off with a pipe.

Will you build the refractory form for the lid? It needs to be a 14.5" diameter x 2.5" deep form with a bottom and sides that can withstand the packing of refractory. It can most likely be made of cardboard and ducktape.

 Thanks
Jason

When/where do you need it?

Also, will you be able to drop stuff off before you leave town? I'd be
happy to come some time during this week and maybe get the refractory
in there.

Alex,
I will know more about my schedule tomorrow. I probably will have it back Saturday.

RJ,
By the weekend and at the space.
Thanks

If someone could weld a base for the furnace that would be great. I was thinking of a angle iron square 14.5" inside, but whatever works, I have the wheels for it.
I will weld it this weekend if it doesn't get done.

The furnace is at the space now. Time for some refractory.

We could make a square or octagon shaped lid form out of plywood and 2x4s.  I can do that tomorrow.

Ok, so Jason L. do you still want me to make a form out of cardboard, or are we going to go with a wooden one
as Doug is mentioning?  Need to know, so I can make it tonight after work for you :)

Really, we just need to make one, so whatever is easiest.
