This is terrible.  I just saw twenty dead, and many more in the hospital (including children).  It sounds like this may have been a hate crime, but they said they can't be sure yet.

I know some people on the list claim that the number of mass shootings has not increased, but I find this difficult to believe.  Something has gone terribly wrong in this country.

To me, it's as if the normal fabric of society is breaking down.  It isn't just the bizarre presidency or the shootings.  About 5-10 years before the rise of Trump, I began to notice that dramatic changes had occurred in society that I had never seen before.

You never know what will happen now, and you can't rely on any basic shared norms.

Patrick Crusius: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

“In general, I support the Christchurch shooter and his manifesto. This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion. Some people will think this statement is hypocritical because of the nearly complete ethnic and cultural destruction brought to the Native Americans by our European ancestors, but this just reinforces my point. The natives didn’t take the invasion of Europeans seriously, and now what’s left is just a shadow of what was. My motives for this attack are not at all personal. Actually the Hispanic community was not my target before I read The Great Replacement. This manifesto will cover the political and economic reasons behind the attack, my gear, my expectations of what response this will generate and my personal motivations and thoughts.”

What we need to do, in my opinion, is to better inform people that the decline in our economy is due to corporate priorities, not to an ethnic group.  Corporations have succeeded in misdirecting many people to the wrong cause for our economic problems.

I don't hear many of the presidential candidates saying this as loudly as they should be.

Andrew Yang has been pointing out that it's neither brown people taking jobs nor evil corporate manipulation.?? It's automation.?? Our economy, as measured by the GDP and unemployment rate, is great.?? But income inequality is huge and growing.?? The reason is that capital investment in AI and data and automation pays well for the investors and demotes almost everyone else's job.

Yes, Yang makes a lot of sense.  I've donated money to a few candidates, and he's one of them.

Now there is a mass shooting in Ohio. But never fear, our leaders are right on it. Donald t'Rump has called it an act of cowardice and you can be sure the Senate will have a moment of silence --- just before they will probably push some deregulation of assault rifles to t'Rump's desk for signing.

You can't let corporations off the hook so easily.  The plight of many Americans today is due to the billionaire ownership of the government which prevents government from doing what government is supposed to do. ( If you have a brain)  Our medical "system" the ridiculous minimum wage  , government collusion with corporations  to destroy workers rights to engage in collective bargaining etc. are all major parts of the problem.

I agree, Bob, but why does corporate hegemony have a vested interest in gun ownership?  I do not see a corporate reason for the failure to pass laws limiting gun ownership.  Surely in the U.S. these are based on the 2nd Amendment, which is a political factor, as well as the power of the NRA.

A while back I had a brief encounter with somebody I know who owns a restaurant. This man is an ardent NRA and pro-t'Rump guy. He asked why I have not been to his establishment of late. I got a good quip in, "I tend not to go to such places because of mass shootings; remember Luby's?" The guy's eyes widened a bit and he was at a loss for words. Don't want to risk being shot in a mall?  Well shop online. I think it is a bit subconscious, and I don't like to go shopping for things like groceries, but I tend these days not to go into places with crowds. For somebody with a gun it is like shooting into a barrel.

Is the upsurge in mass assaults hurting business? Yeah, I bet it is.

I passed through Gilroy the day after the shootings there.  We had long planned to journey through there on the day we did, but if we had simply passed through one day earlier, we could have had a very dangerous trip.

My son's school was on lockdown once when he was in elementary school due to a gunman on campus.

I also had a bomb threat called into my classroom just a few years ago.

I wasn't thinking of guns but it's connected. One gun and ammunition are very big money and two, guns  is an issue that gets right wing tiny hands all motivated to vote republican. This is why the democrats can't touch it.
