Does Apple TV Hardware Support Primary and Slave drives?

I thought about modding my Apple TV to support multiple boot volumes.
I was thinking of getting something like:

Which is an IDE to SATA converter.
I would then use another kit to go from SATA to eSATA.

In order to switch boot volumes I could use either a boot menu or swap cables.

Has anyone tried this?

May be limited by AppleOS but I think so. if you swap cables it
becomes irrelevant. let us know how the eSATA works.
