Say No to Union-Busting!

Fairfax is proposing to take over the 2W, 12 & 20 Metrobus routes and
replace them with a non-union private contractor. The routes affected
serve the Oakton, Chantilly and Centreville areas and largely service
Vienna Metrorail station.

According to Fairfax County’s own documents, the takeover will cost
$137,000 more in the first year of operation than Metrobus charges the
County for providing the service. What’s worse is that this figure
does not include the $8.5 million cost to the County of purchasing the
buses for the takeover.

At a time when Fairfax County is struggling with its own budget crisis
and is considering cutting essential services like police, fire,
schools and transit, this takeover is a huge mistake.

Take action and tell the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors that a
scheme that costs the County more money to replace decent jobs with
low wage workers for the benefit of a private contractor is bad public
policy

Speaking of Fairfax bus service, have any of you been to the new Ox Road facility that its my understanding is to replace the Arlington Division?

I've not been there, but a friend of mine has and says its a shop that is for both Metrobus and Fairfax Connector, and that there is a stripe painted down the center of the shop meant to separate the two bus groups.

Is that true?  And if so, does anyone know what the deal was that was struck to put the two in the same building.

Yes, WMATA & Fairfax County entered into a joint use agreement.
Fairfax owns the land and facility. WMATA leases space for about 100
buses from Fairfax while about 75 buses are reserved for the
Connector. The WMATA lease is for 75 years. 9 lifts are reserved for
WMATA, 7 for Connector. There are separate operator lounges and
supervisory offices. Fairfax is considering expanding the facility
further and the Supervisors will vote later this year on that
proposal.
