On Becoming A Pariah by Lyn Ekedahl
They say hell’s road is paved with good intentions.
More often, though, that road is paved with bad—
As when those who launch a war are lacking scruples,
Are ill-informed and arrogant and mad!
And that, of course, is just what we are seeing.
Trump attacked Iran—no reason clear.
With Khamenei in the past we’d reached agreement.
Now no just deal is likely to appear.
By launching war unjust we’ve now become
A pariah state—unprincipled, corrupt.
While bombing houses, hospitals, and schools,
We’re urging folks we’re bombing to rise up!
In a war that’s just, one cannot bomb civilians.
But Netanyahu seems to be Trump’s chosen guide.
In order to assassinate one bad guy,
They’ll spew carnage and destruction from the sky!
As Hegseth put the US role so baldly,
“We’re kicking them while they are lying down!”
That’s just the sort of statement lacking honor
That you’d expect from Donald and his clowns!
Those clowns are perpetrating death and chaos
As Persian Gulf states too are being bombed.
Millions now, as refugees, are fleeing,
Just pursuing food and shelter where it’s calm.
Will Lebanon become another Gaza?
Will Iran collapse? Will civil war prevail?
No one knows the answer to these questions.
But what we’ve done is far beyond the pale!
on immigrants
We are driving out our seed corn...without immigrants look at where we would be...read and share!
The government first began gathering detailed information on benefits use by citizenship status in 1994. The data show:
For each year from 1994 to 2023, the US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government.
Over that period, immigrants created a cumulative fiscal surplus of $14.5 trillion in real 2024 US dollars, including $3.9 trillion in savings on interest on the debt.
Without immigrants, US government public debt at all levels would be at least 205 percent of gross domestic product (GDP)—nearly twice its 2023 level.
