Minnesota Strong by Lyn Ekedahl

Many folks in Minnesota say
They’re Minnesota strong.
And the strength that they’ve been showing 
Tends to prove that they’re not wrong.

Braving temperatures sub-zero, 
They go out into the streets
To protect their friends and neighbors
And defy cold ICE‘s heat!

They’ve been shot and they’ve been beaten;
Pulled from cars and pepper sprayed
As they simply try to witness
And record cold ICE’s raids.

Now they have a real live hero,
New state symbol and a star!
One who shows both strength and courage.
I mean, of course, Omar.

When a burly jerk attacked her
With syringe-filled liquid mist,
Omar didn’t flee or cower;
She went at him with her fist!

While perhaps not recommended,
Still her courage makes me proud.
Like her Minnesota neighbors, 
She proves heroes won’t be cowed!
