The Quantified Self folks just started an official forum today, and it
has a section on tracking cognitive performance:

http://forum.quantifiedself.com/thread-measuring-cognitive-performance

What are people's thoughts on migrating discussion there? We'd surely
lose a few people in the transition, but would stand to gain from a
larger, more diverse audience. I think a lot of what we touched on
overlaps with other topics and would benefit from a broader set of
eyes and ears.

Ugh. Email comes to my attention; forum posts don't.

I'll continue to follow the discussion here if you decide to keep it here, but let me give a few reasons we eventually decided that forums made sense:

-Alex, you can subscribe to the forum and get new posts forwarded to your email
-Google closes threads after a defined time, and we thought it would be good to have open time frame
-images/charts are easy to include
-html can be included in posts
-posts can be edited at any time
-good, multi-layer moderation tools

Again, no pressure to migrate if you prefer staying here... consider it just another possible venue. But maybe give it a try for a few cycles and see how it feels

Not to belabor the point or anything, but email notifications that
something happened -- even if the notification includes full text --
are nowhere near the same thing as an email message with proper
mailing list headers. (If you like, I *could* belabor the point and
list all the ways email works better... :-))

I agree, that's a sucky feature. However, as far I understand it, an
email reply reopens a thread, even if you can't reopen it through the
ggroups web UI. GGroups moderation tools also suck -- though their
spam filter is excellent.

Plenty of thriving online communities use phpbb or other web forums.
It's just that it's a large burden for me personally -- and, I'd
imagine, lots of other tech fogies -- to participate in them.

P.S. I'm over 40, so I get to call myself a fogie. But nobody else does!
