Year contract in Madison, Wi. The start date is August, 2003.
Position Request Description:
The selected candidate will assist in the ongoing development, testing,
debugging and documenting of two large VB/GIS applications. The LCM
(Location Control Management) Maintenance System is used to manage and
update the SDE (ESRI's Spatial Database Engine) layers and many of the
Oracle attribute tables contained in the WISLR (WisDOT local road) database.
The Map Creation System is used to manage and generate several standard Map
Series (over 2000 individual maps). The LCM application is distributed to
DOT's 8 regional offices where it is used to remotely manage the WISLR
location database. The Map Creation tools are currently used in central
office but it will be deployed to the 8 regional offices in the near future.
The applications have been developed using Visual Basic, ESRI's ArcObjects
(feature management) and ADO (direct connections to Oracle). The attribute
tables reside in Oracle 8i and the features tables in SDE. A highly
qualified candidate will have significant experience building maintenance
applications using the ArcObjects development environment to manage data
stored in both Oracle 8i and SDE (using un-versioned features). The tasks
must be performed within DOT's existing technology architectures. The
candidate would be required to reside and in Madison, Wisconsin. All
minimum requirements must be met for a candidate to even be considered for
this position.
Project Description:
The WISLR system provides for the management and integration of roadway data
(physical and administrative) with location and it provides multiple methods
for displaying, accessing and editing the data. It has been designed to
support local, regional, and statewide roadway needs analysis. This
project is sponsored jointly by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
(WisDOT) and the Local Roads and Streets Council (LRSC). The new system is
a shared local and state resource that will be used by government officials
to ensure the quality of local roads within Wisconsin.
Hardware/Software Environment:
The development environment consists of: Windows NT 4.0, ESRI Arc/Info
8.1.2, ESRI ArcSDE 8.1, ESRI ArcObjects, Visual Basic 6.0, PVCS and Visio
2000.
