The biggest advantage I think is the interface of PMpost and how easy it is to make simple changes yourself. If you get to a course or if you have some basic programming knowledge you could do some more complicated changes. I would recommend to get to a course first. It took me a long time to do certain changes that as I have learned afterwards where a few clicks away.
I will have to warn you here that when I did that for our posts (I converted three machines about two years ago) the result was not perfect. It took some time to get this right. I know it is not easy to replace a working post but this is something that you should have done some time ago.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments, and will put that on the to do list. Honestly though, for us we have three Haas 3 axis mills and Duct post has worked since forever. I never really saw a big push from delcam to move to PMpost, more like it was an option. Since things were running OK, I never saw the benefit.
Something I could do without involving UK Support was to add project info in the beginning of the program so I know when the program has been posted-the post I used at that time etc., or to have always at the end of every toolpath a specific set of commands that will retract the tool to a pre-defined place.
Something more complicated was to introduce parameters that are activated when cutter compensation is on, then distinguish which cutter strategy you are using and it helical strategy with cycles-on was used to stop the post as that produced deeper code than normal.
Always though test your new untested posts using a different name because some times you think you can get it to its previous state but you realise you can not .....so you have to start from the beginning: smileysad:
Something I nearly forgot. Keep your agent informed of all your changes no matter how small they are. Keep a journal of all your changes, It helps. The reason for that is if you ask something important to be done your changes may affect their work. Or if they work in an old version of your pmpost and they do something serious then you have to redo all your changes to the new one (you have guessed what happened here right??)
