This knowledge test is designed to familiarize you with the format of the driver's license test on laws and regulations. These practice exam(s) should be used as an educational tool in conjunction with the Nebraska Driver's Manual, not as an alternative to studying the manual.

After passing your passenger (Class D) or motorcycle (Class M) road test, paying the fees, and proving lawful presence (if applicable), your permit will immediately serve as your temporary driver's license until the permanent license is delivered via the mail.

The fastest and easiest way to schedule a road test is online. If you need to reschedule a road test, simply visit the online service center and select 'schedule a road test'. This option will allow you to cancel your current road test and select another date and location.

NOTE: Commercial (Class A, B, or C) road tests can also be scheduled by calling 857-368-7381. This phone line is monitored by the State Police who conduct the commercial road tests. They are not authorized to schedule any Class D or M road test. Any applicant scheduling a full CDL Skills Exam on or after October 10, 2023 should be prepared to test on the new modernized version of the exam.

To schedule your commercial (Class A, B, or C) road test, call 857-368-7381. This phone line is monitored by the State Police who conduct the commercial road tests. They are not authorized to schedule any Class D or M road test.

Vehicles used for a Class D or M road test must meet the following requirements and will be inspected before your test. This includes vehicles with an ignition interlock device, and vehicles with adaptive equipment for a competency test.

If you have a road test scheduled, and you would like to see if there is a road test available sooner than your scheduled date, you will need to cancel your current road test first. If you cancel your road test and then change your mind, the RMV cannot guarantee that your original time slot will be available.

Effective February 7, 2022: If you are applying for a CDL for the first time or adding a Hazmat, Passenger, or School Bus endorsement for the first time, you must complete entry-level driver training (ELDT) before taking a CDL road test. Hazmat ELDT is required before taking the Hazardous Materials knowledge test. The training provider must be registered on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. Go to the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) FAQ for more information about the ELDT requirement.

The road test scheduling system offers the earliest available dates and times at sites near the ZIP code you provide. Usually, the earliest date is within 3 to 5 weeks, but at peak testing periods during summer and school breaks it may be up to 10 weeks away. There are no waiting lists. Tests are almost always on weekdays (only rarely do we offer them on a Saturday).

Tests can be canceled/rescheduled or relocated due to bad weather or road construction. Before you leave for your test, check the DMV cancellations, closings, and delays webpage or call 1-518-402-2100.

After the road test, the examiner will give you instructions on how to receive your test results by visiting roadtestresults.nyrtsscheduler.com. Your results will be posted to the website after 6 p.m. on the day of your test.

An interim license that allows you to drive will be available to you online - keep the interim license with your photo learner permit. You will receive your photo driver license in the mail, in about 2 weeks. Drivers of all ages are subject to a probationary period for new drivers. If you are under age 18 and have a Class DJ, MJ, or DJ/MJ driver license, you must obey the restrictions for junior drivers (see Graduated Driver License (GDL) Law and restrictions on drivers under age 18).

To schedule an appointment for a written, permit, road, or motorcycle test, please click on the appointment banner and follow the instructions for the online scheduler. For more information, please contact kspdrive...@ky.gov

Drivers whose permits were issued under the age of 18 are required to complete a driver education program before moving to the full, unrestricted licensing phase. Before you are eligible to obtain a full, unrestricted license, you must complete a driver training program.

To schedule appointments for a CDL Skills Test or the TSA HazMat Fingerprinting/Background, call 800-542-5990 then press 1 for CDL Skills Test, press 2 for TSA HazMat, or press 3 for more information.

The only approved source material for the written/permit test is the Kentucky Driver Manual. Access the Kentucky Driver Manual online. All driver testing materials can be viewed and downloaded free of charge.

Some locations have audio versions of the test. The test may be administered orally at locations where this service is not available. Please contact our office for additional information at (800) 542-5990, Option #3.

If you line up 6 to 7 cars bumper-to-bumper, it equals approximately 100 feet. As you approach a turn, pretend those cars are parked at the side of the road, and activate your turn signal no later than the back of that line of cars.

Applicants are still required to demonstrate all necessary behaviors (for example, checking mirrors, checking over the shoulder, etc.) for safely monitoring and maneuvering a vehicle during backing maneuvers.

Rental cars may only be used for testing if the applicant provides the rental agreement and the applicant is listed as the renter. The agreement must show that the applicant is insured, and the vehicle must meet all other requirements.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) website, drive.ky.gov, contains a wealth of information about the licensing process. Confidently identify which documents you need to bring by utilizing the KYTC IDOCUMENT GUIDE, and you can also download a printable list of all acceptable documents from their website.

The USA PATRIOT Act requires all drivers who transport hazardous material to undergo a security threat assessment. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) developed the Hazmat Threat Assessment Program to implement this requirement.

The security threat assessment must be completed every five (5) years. The Division of Driver Licensing will send an applicant currently holding a CDL Hazardous Materials Endorsement a notification letter approximately 60 days before the expiration of the security threat assessment. This notification will advise the applicant to initiate and complete the fingerprint-based criminal background check before the expiration date.

To make an appointment or check the status of a security threat assessment, applicants may contact KSP Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by calling (888) 655-9655. If the applicant does not currently hold a CDL, they must obtain a CDL permit before contacting KSP to set up an appointment to be fingerprinted.

All CDL hazmat endorsement holders will be required to take the written hazmat knowledge test and vision test at the time of renewal of the Commercial license unless it has been less than two (2) years from the last test date. The testing fee is $5.00. Upon successful completion of the test, the license will be issued with the hazmat endorsement.

Yes, but all commercial drivers transferring to Kentucky with a hazmat endorsement will be required to take the hazmat knowledge and vision tests. The testing fee is $5.00. For additional information, please visit drive.ky.gov

Your eyes will be tested using a mechanical device. The minimum acceptable vision is 20/60 in one eye, with or without corrective lenses, and a field of vision of, at least, 140-degrees. Upon failure of the field vision exam the applicant will be required to have a Vision Report Form (DS-MR-274) . The form must be completed by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist.
