I am trying to get my old Wacom Graphire tablet to work on OS X El Capitan. I tried downloading -us/support/product-support/drivers (Driver 5.3.3-3 for OS X 10.8, 10.7 & 10.6), but I got a message at the end saying that this is not compatible with my operating system. Any suggestions?

Hi I had no pressure sensitivity on my ET-0405-U until I followed this advice:"I have an ancient Intuos GD-0608-U and I got it to work with El Capitan by installing this driver from Wacom: _6.2.0w4.dmg As the previous user stated the preferences don't work but the pen/stylus does work with default settings..."from -it-possible-to-use-old-wacom-tablet-on-10-11 Other drivers (5.2.6-5 5.3.6-6 ) gave me a single pressure only as did the newer Bamboo drivers

What is the latest driver for the Graphire 3 & 4 (CTE) tablets?
The Graphire 3 & 4 CTE tablets made from 2003-2007 are no longer supported by Wacom and will not work with a current tablet driver. Below are links to the latest drivers available for these tablets.

I retrieved my tablet from the junk pile, installed that driver, cleaned off my tablet while my system rebooted, plugged it in and away I went! In PaintShop Pro 2018, the setting is found at File > Preferences > General Program Preferences in the Miscellaneous section.

Thank you so very much. I checked the WACOM website and left with some despair. The 525-2a link above still works as of 6 December 2018. Installed the driver on my Win10 Pro laptop and the tablet, pen and mouse seem to work as expected.
Cheers,
Ted

Just installed the cons530-3_int.exe to drive a cte 640 on a fresh windows 10 machine. Works perfectly, But, if you tried to install any other versions from wacom site previously i had to take these steps first. unistall all wacom drivers, unplug Tablet, restart machine, install the cons530-3_int.exe driver, Then plug in my CTE 640

Having a working but outdated wacom is nice, and after that hassle with the driver, let me say 1000 thank you for bringing up this post, that helps reanimating the old 2007 wacoms and saves our money ?

I hope your description of putting it out on the verge was metaphorical. Please sell your old hardware on eBay instead. We Linux users can use it almost into perpetuity, with drivers that are maintained by a worldwide community. Doing so will keep it out of landfill, and give you some money toward a new one.

Ha, now it is 2023. Lost my teaching job and the school computer + acc. Retiring neighbor gave me Wacom Graphire CTE-440 and mouse, and shortly after that the poor man died (retirement seems to do that to some folks). pen seems missing. Any ideas where I might find a pen that works? Wacom says, of course, nothing like that is made or sold anymore. Any ideas where to get a pen that works?

After making the move to Windows 7 a few months ago everything went fine regarding my tablet. Then a month later the driver died, i installed a newer version of the tablet for W7 and since then ive been having nightmares regarding the touch functionality of the tablet.

When photoshop is not the active window, my pen can control the cursor to any position on the screen, however once photoshop is the active window, i can only control the upper left corner of the monitor. Ive tested it on a few apps and the same is happening on Fireworks, After Effects.

I would actually recommend contacting Wacom forums or Wacom customer service with this problem as it does not sound like Photoshop is affecting this in any way. Good luck! I would be a wreck if my wacom stopped working....

With the mapping, i have reset the settings for it, but the same is still happening Perhaps i havent explained properly.. its currently working perfectly fine. but if i were to launch photoshop right now, and have it has the active window, im limited to were i can move the cursor to, simply making another window active will change this back to being perfectly fine.

Just something that hasn't been mentioned yet. In the Wacom tablet properties, have you tried selecting Photoshop as an application to see if that has anything to do with the workings of the tablet? I have no idea if it will or not.

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM!!! My Tablet worked fine for a day, NOW anytime I open Photoshop or Illustrator it only works on the upper left hand corner of the screen. No answer anywhere on the web... several other people having the same problem. Every one just keeps saying install new drivers, install new drivers... we've all done that and it doesn't solve the problem.

Go to Start menu -> Pen tablet and run the tablet preference utility to remove the settings, which resets and restarts the driver. If the problem remains, go to the Windows control panel 'programs and features', select the 'features' list and uninstall the 'optional pen/tabletpc components', then restart Windows and test it. If you need the Windows pen inking features, install the optional components again. Usually this corrects the problem.

Problem description: the tablet would only function in the top left area of the full screen when running Photoshop and in Lightroom only a portion of the image window, plus the pointer jumped all over the place on menu items.

2. Wacom Tech Support recognized the issue immediately and walked me through manually updating the driver (even though I had installed the latest driver once again this morning). The TS said their driver does not always install correctly under Windows and they find it necessary to manually update.

3. The TS indicated that they would not post this as a known issue and therefore would not post a solution in their Knowledge Base because each computer was unique and required their direction. You must call Wacom Tech Support (800-922-6613) to individually receive directions (be at your computer when you make the call).

I think they won't post because of the uninformed viewpoint that some companies retain, that problems make their product look bad - Wacom should consider how happy their customers would be if they could readily find a known issue and its resolution - how many frustrated Wacom users have experienced this problem? Probably close to the number of units sold.

I had this problem too and rung Wacom tech support, who fixed the problem - this may not work for everyone, but it sure worked for me. I'm running a Windows 7 64-bit system with CS3 with an Intuous 2 tablet.

I tried all of the above and it still didn't work for me. So I uninstalled everything, cleaned out the reg, unplugged the tablet and restarted. Then I installed the drivers with no tablet attacted and then restarted again. Upon restart I plugged in my Bamboo Fun and BAM! It finally worked.

I recently purchased the Intuos4 medium tablet and I am having a simlar problem The cursor will not cover the entire screen. It stops short of the bottom only when using Photoshop. The tablet works fine with Dreamweaver. I was NOT able to solve the problem by opening Wacom Tablet Properties, selecting Grip Pen, All applications and Mapping. I then clicked Default which set the Service Area to Full and the Tablet Area to Full. Force Proportions is not checked. Cursor is still stopping short of the bottom of the screen. I am running the most up-to-date Windows drivers for the Intuos 4. Downloaded them yesterday from Wacom download.

Please note that this post only applies to Windows and Mac users!
XP-Pen is the only tablet company which creates official Linux drivers. All other Linux drivers are community developed and Wacom tablets have the most stable community-made Linux drivers because they have such a large userbase. If you use Linux OS, choosing Wacom or XP-Pen will most likely be the best choice for you.

(Above are some common responses you will get when you ask what tablet you should get to begin your digital art journey. Recently, awareness about non-Wacom brands seems to be getting much better though.)

Active area is the section of the tablet which senses the pen input. The smaller it is, the further your cursor moves with each small motion. For most digital artists, a bigger active area is better because it allows for better control over more precise actions on the screen (without having to zoom in really close to the canvas to compensate).
A bigger active area size also has the added benefit of being easier to get used to, and in turn this allows you to gain control over your lines quicker and have a more enjoyable digital drawing experience from the start.
Please note that this information is not relevant for some forms of digital art such as photo retouching which do not benefit a large active area. This information applies mostly to digital drawers and painters.

The active area size which seems to fit the majority of people is 85 to 106 inches. In Wacom terms, that would be between the medium and large size. Going bigger than that often causes people to start complaining about having to move their arm too much for each stroke, so it is usually your safest bet to stay in the 85 to 106 size range.

Interestingly enough, the Wacom Intuos has the smallest active area among tablets which cost around 80-100 USD despite it being marketed towards digital artists who actually benefit quite greatly from having larger active area sizes.
And when the Wacom Intuos is compared to tablets with around the same active area size, the price difference becomes pretty inexplicable.

However, even if you get all 3 programs now (in the Americas), I still believe that you should not compromise tablet size just for the bundled programs. You can always get the programs separately later, but you cannot change the size of your tablet unless you buy a whole new tablet.

The second reason why I do not recommend the Wacom Intuos is because of the bundled programs.
I believe that the high price of the Wacom Intuos can be largely attributed to the fact that you have to pay for bundled programs. They simply give you no choice.
