In 1920, Jaidev Verma is a famous poet who lives as a loner as he is unable to meet the love of his life, Smriti. They got to know each other through an exchange of letters and slowly fall in love. One day, Jaidev receives a letter informing him that Smriti had died by an accident. His sister Karuna is the only support system that keeps him motivated. Jaidev finds an unconscious girl near a lake and brings her home. After gaining consciousness, she is unable to remember anything from her life except Jaidev's poems. Karuna becomes skeptical of her presence in the house and gets even more so when an undertaker warns them of an evil spirit inside her.

Jaidev is insistent on keeping her at home since he feels a connection to her. He names her Sangeeta and she experiences frightening phenomena, vomiting iron nails and seeing ghosts in her room. On their way to see a doctor, Sangeeta gets possessed by the ghost. To save her, the only person Jaidev can turn to is the cemetery keeper. Slowly Jaidev gets to know that Sangeeta is actually his lost love Smriti. He goes to Smriti's address to find out the truth about her. He discovers that Karuna had come there earlier, asking about Smriti. Jaidev returns home and finds Karuna's body hanging in the forest with suicide notes around it. From Karuna's letters, he learns that his best friend Amar, who envied Jaidev's success, assaulted Karuna. When Amar discovered that Jaidev loved Smriti, he went to Smriti, posing as Jaidev, and took her to his residence in Shimla to abuse her, but in the process, Amar was killed. It is his spirit that now possesses Smriti.

Jaidev is badly injured in the battle against the spirit. The spirit in Smriti's body burns Amar's corpse, thus forever remaining in her body. Jaidev helplessly pleads with the spirit to kill him, since there is no meaning in letting him live if the spirit will take Smriti from him. Amar's spirit refuses, saying that this is exactly what he wanted: for Jaidev to suffer. Jaidev cuts a rope attached to a loft in ceiling; a corpse falls from there, landing on Smriti, and making contact with her. It is revealed in a flashback that Jaidev and the group had hidden the real corpse of Amar in the ceiling as precaution. The corpse comes alive as Amar is forced to return to his original body. Enraged, Amar's corpse tries to kill Smriti, but Jaidev saves her and sets Amar's corpse on fire, thus freeing Amar's spirit. Jaidev and Smriti get married and the film ends as they consummate their union.

Renuka Vyavahare of Times of India gave it 3 stars. "1920 gives you the creeps...watch it." said ToI.[11] Rediff Movies said "1920 Evil Returns is yet another needless horror film. It's cold and bland." and gave it 1 star.[12] Roshni Devi of Koimoi gave it 2 stars. "Watch it only if you're desperate for some uninspiring horror. Give it a rest otherwise." wrote Roshni Devi.[13] Social Movie Rating site MOZVO gave it a rating of 2.3 putting it in 'Below Average' category.[14] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it 2.5 stars.[15]

Jaidev marries Smriti and they live happily with each other in the end.

In order to give some much-needed historical context, and to better understand this strange and disturbing topic (the Ku Klux Klan in Orange County in the 1920s), I spent my winter break reading the definitive work on the topic, a 700-page doctoral dissertation entitled The Invisible Government and the Viable Community: The Ku Klux Klan in Orange County, California During the 1920s by Christopher Cocoltchos. I present here a summary of what I learned.

The first KKK was formed in the aftermath of the Civil War by disgruntled and defeated Confederate soldiers who were upset about newly freed African Americans and other changes happening in the South during the period known as Reconstruction. They, like all subsequent versions of the KKK, believed in white supremacy. This first Klan had died down by the 1870s.

Then, in 1915, the Ku Klux Klan was re-born in Georgia by a man named William Joseph Simmons, who was inspired by the first major American blockbuster film, The Birth of a Nation, directed by D.W. Griffith. This hugely popular film was based on a best-selling novel called The Clansman by Thomas Dixon.

The local Lions, Rotary, and Elks clubs and the Masonic Lodge denounced the Klan as a menace to prosperity and an agent of bigotry. The American Legion post in Anaheim was the only civic or social group that the Klan dominated.

Rewriting history to fit the false narrative that the KKK is affiliated with Conservatives or Republicans is a blatant attempt to rewrite history and I sincerely hope the Fullerton Observer will do all they can to stop such willful misconduct as a leader in providing accurate news.

Those are great questions. While, prior to COVID-19, you could physically visit either the US Library of Congress or the Anaheim Heritage Center Public Library to see the list, neither allows any copying of the list or any electronic device, phone, or camera and the list cannot be viewed online.

The US Library of Congress listed the KKK membership list in its collection up until 1982 (a few years after the dissertation was written) when librarians discovered it had disappeared from the files. They are still looking for it as of June 2020 when I got the letter below in response to my question:

The KKK and the White Supremacy movement were products of the minds and interests of Democrats.

The KKK has been formed three times. 1865, 1915, and 1946 until the present time. Always by Democrats.

The mindset that created slavery and White Supremacy is still there today. People conveniently forget or are denied history. Statues of the Founding Fathers stand in a large number of states where Black people are less privileged.

Equating modern Democrats to pre-1950s Democrats is one of the most significant and insidious disinformation campaigns in modern history. One needs only look at a few historical maps to see that the geographic and demographic base of the pre-1950s Democrats has realigned in support of the modern Republican party.

Hercule Poirot is back, whether one likes it or not. It was Agatha Christie's family that decided that it was time for the world to know him again. It is through writer Sophie Hannah's new novel that Poirot returns to solve a mystery and bring justice. This new novel, The Monogram Murders, comes 39 years after Poirot's final (literally) case. I will review this new novel and judge if Poirot's return is triumphant.

Did I have some reservations about the new novel? Of course. No one can replace Agatha Christie. I owe it to myself to read it. Why? There are two reasons: 1) I never bought an Hercule Poirot novel that was truly new to everyone; Agatha Christie passed away when I was just a little one; 2) I am a fan of Agatha Christie, but I am also a fan of Hercule Poirot, and if there's a new mystery with him, I'm going to read it. Reading the book was like visiting an old friend. So, here goes my review--with no spoilers:
