Thank you for your interest and your help. You all asked to see last year's conference.  This is the website, which will give you a good idea of our conference. Can click on "Meet the Professionals" to see our guest faculty for last year.  This year, I'm shooting for fewer faculty speakers and more attendees!  July 15-17, 2011.

  • So far this year we have James McSill (my Anglo Brazilian business partner in the UK, Ken Atchity (our film producer and books to film expert), Richard Krevolin (screenwriter), Vanda Teixeira and moi. Possibly June Clark from Get There Media in NY, but I need help from sponsors to pay for airfare and hotel.
  • We're using Hotel Midtown on Peachtree and 10th this year.
  • Ambassador Ganem has offered us for free the Brazilian Consulate space if we want it, really nice of him and to have the support of the Consulate.  However, if the cost isn't prohibitive, it might turn out to be more convenient to have it all at Hotel Midtown.
  • I doubt so many Brazilians will pay again so soon to fly all the way over from Brazil?  We'll get the word out to them for sure with incentives, but let's also focus on marketing to our Brazilians in the Metro Area.

I welcome your ideas and offers to make it fun and easy for us all.
Muito obrigada,
Mardeene

Thank you so much for the wonderful references, Corina! I shall keep you all posted.  Ambassador Ganem has changed the Brazil Fest to Sept. 22, 23, 24 and recommends I do my conference then too.  I probably won't be able to change it at this point, but checking it out briefly.  I think we all were saying before it's probably best not to have them at the same time...
Best wishes to all,
Mardeene

Dear Mardeene,

What a wonderful event.

Another suggestion: have you tried to contact the following:

1) Sheldon Schiffer (cinema professor at GSU). He was doing a movie in Brazil last year. His e-mail: sheldo...@gmail.com
2) Julia Simoes (Portuguese professor at GSU). Her e-mail: simoe...@gmail.com
3) Cassandra While (anthropology professor at GSU, whose interest is Brazil). Her e-mail: cwh...@gsu.edu. I already told Cassandra about your event and she is interested in learning more about it.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Corina
