This is an enormous project that will require the help of many different people around the world. This forum is the place to discuss, organize, and collaborate on the map's creation. A user-friendly web-based map editor is currently in progress, but until that's ready this board can be a good place to start collaborating using existing GIS tools.

So if you're a GIS professional or are familiar with tools like Quantum GIS, ArcGIS, OpenJUMP, etc., help out and join the community! If not, you can still get involved. Introduce yourself and we can help get you started. Here are a few places to get the learning process started:
  • Map School -- Tom MacWright's great intro to digital map making
  • geojson.io -- make simple shapes and points and export them to GeoJSON (a common web format for geographic data)
  • Quantum GIS -- used to edit GIS, whether in Shapefiles, PostGIS, or other (a little more advanced)
IMPORTANT: Please read our Contributor Agreement before making any contributions to the map.
