Query Languages

I've gotten a couple questions about query languages, both from within
JIRA and something that could be scripted externally to JIRA and pull
data into Linux.

Some of the tracks at Atlascamp talked about query language
enhancements, but I was in other groups and only got passing
information on them.

Are there any details or links about the preferred query language
discussed? The usual call for which release, samples, docs or any
other info/presentations would be greatly appreciated.
