If a map has no data at it margins, Atlas consumes a permanent high cpu load.

The area in north (above the border) has no data.
Tested on OS X (2 cores) with Atlas 1.2.3.

Thanks for the report Klaus.

Can you mention exact map / render theme and coordinates / zoom to check it?
(because I'm not aware of such behavior)

Also any particular option enabled in the app, like label layer?

You can test it with the ireland map and the freizeitkarte-v4 theme from here:

Try it with zoomlevel 7 by rendering something like this:

The problem is gone if the rendered map has no areas with void data:

I see the issue when LabelLayer is enabled and the map rectangle borders are inside the visible map view.
When we go completely inside map bounds at all sides the cpu load falls.

I remember fixing in the past some issues for LabelLayer (#595 #639 #642) that caused such behavior.

Can you post a new issue in Mapsforge?
Something still works behind at map edges and occupies the CPU.

If have opened this issue for it: https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/issues/803

Klaus

PS: Yes you are right, the problem only occurs with activated label layer.
