Please, take a few minutes to introduce yourselves! Let us know who
you are, what you study, what your non-academic interests are. I know
all of you individually but i don't think you all know each other.
It's important that you get a good idea of who is in this class. If
you have links to pictures of yourselves and family, feel free to send
a link. So, here is my intro: I'm edwige, I work for ALTEC and i am a
first year Phd student in atlas. My research interests are...online
learning and professional development of course. This project/course
is an attempt to investigate ways to prepare future faculty to teach
online. So thank you for being a part of this! I am hoping to learn a
lot though this project. And I will do my best to keep this
interesting, manageable and enjoyable.
Outside of work, I like to spend as much time as possible with my son,
Tibault, who is 5 (and half...the half part is a big deal!). I like to
garden and bake...and play with my computer. I could lie and pretend
that i exercise a lot...but I really don't. Your turn!

Hi everyone! I'm Maggie and I'm a GTPI for the Spanish Dept. I'm
really excited to be a part of this course because I love using
technology in the classroom, and I've been curious to explore on-line
learning and developing a course. I've also taught a third-year
Spanish class, and I do notice that my students seen to have a
difficult time "jumping in" at the beginning of the semester. So, I
think this project will be very interesting to see if a refresher
course does have a positive impact on students' ability to fill in the
gap between the second and third year curriculum.
Teaching is a great passion of mine---along with cooking, EATING :-),
and traveling.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in the course and working
with those I already know.

I am Skyler from the French department. I am studying 19th century
historiography with a particular focus on Jules Michelet and Victor
Hugo. I also have a boy. He is two. In my spare time I also
garden. I am going to begin seeding my tomato plants in a month. I
do a lot of sports, but seasonally and only if it is nice outside. I
also do a good deal of baking.

I am Yoshie and I'm a graduate student in the Japanese department. My
interests are pedagogy and instructional technology (Edwige got me
interested in this). I have taught first year Japanese before coming
to CU and TAed first and third year Japanese here. This semester, I am
TAing Japanese 1020 creating assessments on CULearn. I hope to
graduate in May and teach Japanese somewhere.
I love snowboarding, traveling, eating...oh, I also love coffee,
anything cute (it's a Japanese thing), and chocolate. It sounds like
people in this class like cooking/baking. I am more than happy to have
any left overs! :D

I will definitely bring some goodies to class once we start meeting
face to face! Now, try them at your own risks! I like to experiment
with new recipes...Not always a good thing!

Maybe we'll get you to bring some home made goodies to class too. My
favorite for recipes is http://www.marmiton.org. Great recipes!

Hi! I'm Helen. I'm a PhD student from Linguistics Dept. My research
interests are mainly on human interaction and conversation. Right now
I'm working on my dissertation, which is about how Mandarin speakers
in face-to-face conversation make use of prosodic patterns (consist of
frequency, loudness, length, pause, and other sound cues) to achieve
conversational interaction (such as to make a request, to ask a
question, to search for words to express your thoughts and
ideas....). Currently I'm not teaching any class. But in the past
I've taught Mandarin Chinese (mostly for beginners), and TA-ed some
introductory courses from linguistics. I'm hoping to find a teaching
position in Chinese language and/or Chinese linguistics after
graduating (though not sure when the graduating part will happen...).
So when Edwige mentioned this course and project to me, my immediate
reaction was: that sounds cool, and I would like to learn more about
that!

Cooking and baking? Count me in....those are what I do mostly when I'm
not working. My cooking is mostly Chinese food, and I do a little
baking, whenever I feel like to. I have to agree with a friend of
mine, who is very good at baking, saying that "it (baking) is a very
'relaxing' activity!" And if anyone feel like to try some authentic
Chinese food, I'd be happy to bring some!

I'd love some authentic Chinese food! and as far as baking being a relaxing activity, I thought so until I included my son in the process. He was 2 when he started baking with me. ..it's a real a adventure every time now!

Hi, I am Petra,
I study comparative literature with a major emphasis in German and am
a 4th-year PhD student. My research interests are migration, theories
of recognition, and how we can make the learning experience more
motivating to students. Outside of work, I like to spend a lot of
time with my husband and my dog. I love to hike, ski, play tennis and
golf, paint water colors (this is new and very exciting), bake and
travel. Since a lot of you like baking, we should really bring
something in at some point. Right now, I am not allowed to eat wheat
or soy, which makes baking very challenging.
