Seeking colleague for: Testing groundfish stock assessment performance under a changing climate

 

To test robustness of the stock assessment and monitoring surveys to changing species distributions and productivity, we are developing a stock assessment evaluation framework using the R-based Atlantis OM package (https://github.com/r4atlantis/atlantisom ), building on Kaplan et al. (2021). We will challenge stock assessments (developed in the Stock Synthesis framework) with California Current Atlantis ecosystem projections of stock dynamics, and evaluate performance of alternative groundfish stock assessment parametrizations when the Atlantis operating model includes 1) impacts of climate change on population dynamics and growth, and 2) changes to fleet fishing footprints, allocation, and selectivity. The position is a flexible 8-20 month contract. Candidates should have good quantitative skills, and ideally some introduction to stock assessment and/or ecosystem modeling.   Note the US-based contract generally does not sponsor visas.
