Business Ethics by Ferrell is an interesting little book that does not necessarily fit the traditional definition of the word. It may fit better under the definition I gave above, but it is interesting nonetheless. In Business Ethics by Ferrell, Max Lucado, and Jason Furman we have three intertwining stories that mirror many of current events. That is, ethical issues are examined through the lens of business executives dealing with other business executives, both clients and suppliers. In so doing, the book explores some intriguing topics like why certain moral issues seem to crop up over again, how companies should be run according to individual moral values, what makes a company truly ethical, and what sort of consequences if a company or an executive fails to meet their personal ethical standards.

Overall, Business Ethics by Ferrell covers a lot of ground in a relatively short volume. The majority of the book is devoted to each of the three principal characters. Max Lucado is the businessman who finds himself the victim of one of these intrusions. His story is told through the perspective of his wife, Beth. They have a rather interesting relationship to one another, mirroring much of the relationship which exists between spouses in the business world.

Their daughter, Kate, is another whose story is told through a series of journal entries. Kate's situation puts her directly in the center of ethical issues and she suffers as a result. The end result of her experience almost destroys her business career before she gets help from a much more mature and astute businessman, John Dorrance.
