Hi all,
Just an email to say that I'm planning to launch BallastHalo 4 on
13/2/10 at ~15:00UTC from EARS Cambridgeshire, UK (Churchill College
has an event on the weekend so isn't available.
Currently forecasts suggest a flight path that'll swing out west to
Oxford and then travel south crossing the channel at Southampton and
then on into northern France. It would be great if we could find some
potential radio listeners on this rough flight path, looking at our
loggers map http://bit.ly/9OTGDZ there are a couple but we are
especially sparse once we go south of London and very sparse in
France! The current forecast is very early and so may change
massively, in regards to parameters to launch, basically anything that
avoids flying directly over London and doesn't cross into too many
European countries ;-) . I'll run a forecast everyday, it'll be on the
map at the bottom of the ballasthalo 4 wiki page: http://bit.ly/bQhTvO

1) Tracking is very easy - all that is required is a radio that can do
70cm (430-440Mhz) and SSB, then grab a computer (and a cable to
connect e.g. a 3.5mm jack to jack) and also dl-fldigi
(http://code.google.com/p/dl-fldigi/) - there are good guides on how
to do this on the wiki here: http://ukhas.org.uk/guides:tracking_guide
. So if anyone is placed 'near' to the flight path (remember thats
within ~400km!) please do help out with tracking.

2) Those who want to help out with the launch please email me again!
The new site is just a little bit west of Cambridge, its the site used
by the rocketry society, quite a lot of space though not much shelter
:-p

3) Finally even if you don't live nearby or don't have a radio you can
still take part! Chat will be on #highaltitude on irc.freenode.net as
usual, you'll be able to follow on http://spacenear.us/tracker .
Systems analysis, trajectory predictions, float monitoring, online
radio use (will try and hack up my radio to be controllable online)
and general support will be very welcome.

Should be a good launch and thanks in advance for all the help!
