The note-singers are starting back on Saturday, Oct. 7th with an afternoon session, 1p-3p, at Zion Baptist Church in Marietta; A special opportunity at Emory Library on Friday, Oct. 13th; A good opportunity to show what we do at Waller’s Coffee Shop on DeKalb Industrial on Thursday, Oct 19th. Sept 30, Saturday before the 1st Sunday, 10:00 am, South Georgia Convention, Roberta Civic Center, Roberta GA. Directions: Dinner on the grounds at noon From Atlanta, I-75 South to I-475 South. Turn right/west onto Hwy 80W (Eisenhower Parkway) to Roberta. Or, from Macon, take Hwy 80W to Roberta. In Roberta, turn left/south on N. Mathews Street. It becomes S. Mathews Street when you cross over Agency Street. The Civic Center (an old wooden church with good acoustics), is located at 93 South Mathews Street, just south of the old part of the town, next to the recycling center. Oct 5, First Thursday, singing at 7:00 pm at Emory Presbyterian Church - 1886 N Decatur Rd, Atlanta, GA 30307. Park behind the church, and enter the Fellowship Hall. We’ll sing from The Sacred Harp and the Eclectic Harmony. This is an indoor singing, with COVID precautions to protect our community. We ask that participants take an at-home test before departing and bring the details for verification, or arrive early to test onsite (tests will be available onsite beginning at 6:30 pm). Oct 7, Saturday, 1:00p-3:00p. An afternoon gathering of the note-singers at Zion Baptist Church, 165 Lemon Street, Marietta, GA, 30060. Not planning on having a meal, but will have box lunches for those they know are coming. If you think you may attend, please let me know by Monday, Oct 2nd.
Oct 8, 2nd Sunday -The Albright, Cates, Brown, and Sheppard Memorial singing (formerly held at Muscadine Methodist Church in Muscadine, AL) will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 (the second Sunday in October), at Holly Springs Church, in Bremen, Georgia. Singing will start at 10:00 EST. Dinner on the ground will be at 12:00. If you are able, please bring a covered dish.
Oct. 13, Friday, 1:30pm - 2:15pm. Woodruff Library at Emory. Please come help us share Sacred Harp singing with the attendees of the Southeastern Music Library Association 2023 conference. The conference will hold a 45-minute Sacred Harp singing, hosted by the Sacred Harp Publishing Company's Sacred Harp Museum. The singing will feature a mini-exhibition featuring books, papers, and ephemera from the Sacred Harp Museum collection. Location: the Jones Room, on the third floor of Emory University's Robert W. Woodruff Library. Parking: the nearest parking option is the Fishburne Deck. Unfortunately, there is no free parking on campus on weekdays. The library website includes more information on parking, driving directions, and public transportation options. If you are able to attend, please let Jesse Karlsberg know! Dinner on the grounds at noon.The windows in the church will be opened with fans running to assist in ventilation. If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend.
