January 2026 Atlanta Sacred Harp Singing Update

HNY!!

Please note, the ‘First Thursday’ singing at Emory Presbyterian Church will be held on the Third Thursday, January 15th, for this month.

Just a few singing opportunities local to Atlanta area folks this month:

January 10th, Saturday,  2pm - Singing at Shawn Taylor's house in Atlanta, near Kirkwood & Candler Park. Singing from the Shenandoah Harmony. Loaner books will be available. We'll have a break with snacks! Email shawn-at-mapsandapps-dot-net for the address.

January 15th, First Thursday* - 7:00 PM  to 9:00 PM.   singing from The 2025 Sacred Harp (this singing will only use the 2025 Revision for the next few months). Emory Presbyterian Church, 1886 North Decatur Rd, Atlanta GA 30307. Park behind the church, off Westminster Way.   Info: Jim Neal, jim_neal-at-bellsouth.net.

January 19th, 3rd Monday Atlanta Singing, 7:30pm. In The Barn behind St. John the Wonderworker 543 Cherokee Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312 (near Grant Park and the Atlanta Zoo). The Barn- off of Orleans Avenue, walk up drive way behind the church. No musical experience needed. Contact info: Anna Hinton annajhinton at icloud dot com.


January 31st, Saturday before the 1st Sunday, 10:00am-3:00pm, Shenandoah Harmony all day singing at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church (1188 Hamp Mill Rd, Dahlonega, GA 30533). The singing will run from 10 am to 3 pm with dinner on the grounds at noon. Please bring food to share if you are able. We have full kitchen facilities and will provide coffee in the morning. All are also welcome to join us for an evening singing from the Valley Pocket Harmonist, 5-7 pm in the Vickery House, Dahlonega, GA. We have extra copies of both books to borrow or buy. January 31st, Saturday before the 1st Sunday, 9:30 am Central Time, Rotunda singing, Alabama State Archives and History Building, 624 Washington Ave., Montgomery AL 4 books used: Sacred Harp 1991/2025 and Cooper revisions, Christian Harmony, Colored Sacred Harp. Saturday before the 2nd Sunday - Annual all day singing at Emory University — Chapel of Candler School of Theology (in the building across from Cannon Chapel)


4th Sunday and Saturday before: -

-Saturday - all day singing from the JL White revision at Hardeman Primitive Baptist Church;

-Sunday - Athens area singing from the Social Harp & 1991 Sacred Harp - Railroad No. 3 in Arnoldsville, GA
