Well, the Birds went further this year than they have for a while and
if they improve as much next season as they did this season, they
should be primed to go all the way. Great job by the coaching staff!

Indeed. Your post confused me at first, because I went to Bowling
Green State University, home of the Falcons, and we did rather well
this year. I thought I was reading a post from a transplanted alum!

I haven't been to the Falcons home since the '96 Olympics in the old
building. How hard is it to get tickets to the home games since Vick
was drafted?

Nathan,

I read part of your blog and will finish later.
I share your love of trains and I agree with you about establishing a
high speed passenger system, not only regionally, but nationwide. I
know Amtrak has done all it could to discourage train travel, which is
a huge mistake. With the decline of airlines, a high speed rail network
makes sense and would be safer and more efficient, to say nothing of
being more accomodating, than air travel.

I appreciate your reading it.

I think Amtrak is stuck between a rock and itself. Congress can't
simply kill it, if only because of the NE corridor. Congress won't
spend the money to actually allow Amtrak to fully develop and compete.
Amtrak can't attract the leadership which might be able to help its
cause, in part because it doesn't truly control its own fate, and
there isn't much expertise within the rail freight industry.

Rail just has so many things fighting it. If it is going to succeed,
it has to gain a foothold in several regions to create the leverage to
support a linking of those networks.

I think long-term success has to be linked to making train travel a
tourist activity. Pure A to B travel isn't going to work, not at
first to be sure.
