On Saturday, April 21,2012, Dr. Bill Meehan lectured a captive audience on the pros and cons of effective leadership. Attendees also sampled explicit speeches of several leaders’ (Bobby Knight, George Patton, Queen Elizabeth I) trait and style. Dr. Meehan asserted, “certain traits and abilities indicate a great leader but they do not guarantee leadership.”  Here is his leadership trait-checklist for the acronym, CITATIONS:

Confidence

Integrity

Trustworthy

Accountable

Teachable

Intelligent

Optimistic

Nice

Sociable

 

To find out your capacity to lead effectively, Dr. Meehan suggested to take a periodic self-assessment such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

About the Presenter:

Dr. Bill Meehan is assistant professor in the MLIS Program at Valdosta State University, where he teaches the course Leadership in Library and Information Centers and is in the process of forming the Library ­­­Leadership Institute.
