DERAILED TORONTO OLYMPIC BID

Barbara Hall, Mel Lastman, David Crombie
and their asupporters are all throwing
their weight behind another soon to be
ill-fated Olympic bid. They talk fat words
for all the fat cats in front of a backdrop
of increasing social crisis and ecological
ruination.

Draconian laws and radical budget slashbacks
drive kids to the streets to wash car
windows and sleep in condemned buildings.
The numbers of homeless and destitute
soar in a city which once never saw
anyone sleeping in storefronts and never
knew what foodbanks were. The soil and air
and water are foul and life slowly takes
on a grittier, nastier tone as what was
once a recession slid through being a
depression into something that's just not
talked about in polite society anymore.

The last thing we need is a multiple billion
dollar Olympics to waste our precious and
dwindling resources on. Instead of funding
critical social programs and environmental
cleanup projects the next twelve years will
be wasted boosting some get rich scheme for
people who are already rich. While all those
intractable problems go unresolved. Which is
just what the politicians want because they
have no idea on earth as to how to solve them.

Which is the reason for the Olympic diversions.
It's a golden opportunity for politicians to line
their pockets, look like they're doing something
and improve their post-politics career opportunities
all at the same time. A revolting prospect.

(big snip)

That's very nice. It's also meaningless to Atlanta. Many of us down here
are arguing against cancels of your recent articles, which, obnoxious as
they may be, are on-charter; then, you make an ass of us all by posting
flagrantly off-charter.

If this is how you treat your allies...

Atlanta and Toronto are a couple thousand miles apart. Our olympic bid is,
in the next 24 hours, a matter of history. Yours is as ye still
speculative. Kindly take this argument to the appropriate groups.

You're driving me to the conclusion that you and Mr. Isley deserve each
other, and that the general discourse in these groups can only improve if
you both cancel each other out.

If you want to bring your particular brand of flamewar back to the Atlanta
newsgroups, feel free to do so. Gloat over the bomb as much as you wish.
Chuckle over traffic difficulties, if it makes you feel better. This city
has seen worse. You're just a minor pain in our ass, a bit more annoying
than a stone in our shoe, but a bit less so than a bad case of
hemmorhoids.

Oh, Bob, guess what???? Your government is going to have to
fund the olympic games!!!!! Yes, that's right, Bob. After
Atlanta's "overcommercialized" fiasco, Dickie Pound, Juan Don
and the gang said that the next olympic city would have to
have the local government fund the games. What?

You mean they hated Krispy Kreme, the olympic mascot? And the
Kremettes? (For those who don't know, Krispy Kreme is the
name of a very popular doughnut in the south) Oh man!!! I
can't believe it!!! They hated the festive vendor booths
everywhere?? They hated all the beatiful banners and logos
everywhere??? You mean they hated the official olympic
weenie, "turkey dog"? They couldn't have!!! What about the
onion rings? Oops, they weren't licensed.

Those guys just aren't right. I mean I thought Krispy Kreme,
the wonder doughnut, was great. I mean, if you had seen how
good that great big doughnut character was with
kids........it just brings a tear to my eye. And now Dick and
Juan want to end all the companies buying everything? Shame
on them. That means by the time the games reach Toronto, they
might end up like Montreal, BROKE!!! They still haven't paid
off their games from '76!!!! Olympic stadium cost 1 billion
dollars!!!! And the thing is still falling down. And there
are still spending money!!!!

WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!

FALLING ROOF PANEL!!!!!

BAMMM!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the Expos are on the road again for the rest of the
season!!!
