Field Outside Plant Engineer
General Description:
The Field Engineer will be responsible for managing all aspects of POP
site engineering to include securing rights-of-way, ensuring
fiber optic routes are built out, working with engineering &
construction firms to evaluate bids, reviewing drawings etc . Duties
to include; performing site surveys, working with engineering and
construction firms to ensure outside plant designs meet USCarrier
specification. Other work activity includes maintaining plant
records, preparing engineering drawings in AutoCAD 2000, , and
preparing work orders. Approximately 30% of time will be traveling to
various locations in Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee.
Responsibilities:
· Network Engineering, Planning and Design
· Prepare site plans and design evaluations to construct our network.
· Coordinating engineering and construction firms related to the build
out of our POP Sites.
· Prepare request for quotations and prepare analysis of data.
· Prepare related outside plant engineering work orders and associated
drawings.
· Work on contracts securing permits and rights-of-way.
· Create and maintain outside plant records and drawings using AutoCad
and other software tools.
· Create and maintain network records and drawings AutoCad and other
software tools.
· Perform plant inspections, site surveys, and coordinate
installations.
· Prepare and distribute related status reports and tracking of action
items based on these project assignments.
· Prepare and maintain project budget information
Qualifications:
Five years or more experience in a telecommunications technical
discipline with experience and skills in
· Experience in securing permits and rights-of-ways.
· Experience in planning and implementing POP sites.
· Strong organization and project management skills.
· Solid understanding of SONET OC-48 (AT&T Lucent) and fiber designs
· Knowledge/experience in transmission, fiber optic, telecommunication
and data principles
· Ability to use Engineering drawing software and associated
experience in reading OSP drawings.
· Using software packages such as AutoCAD, Windows, Word, and EXCEL.
· LOTUS Notes experience a plus.
· Professional demeanor.
· Individual must be a self-starter and dependable.
· Proven achievements/accomplishments.
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a Technical discipline
is highly desirable. -
