Does anyone know the REAL story of Tom Parks and Angie Stevens
(sp?) of the Atlanta Toyota advertising fame? I noticed for a while
she was pregnant and then she wasn't in the adds, I supposed this is
when she had the baby. Now I see her advertising for another dealer
and Tom Parks and what appears to be his daughter is doing the Toyota
adds.
Can someone bring us up to speed on what is REALLY going on???
Thanks, BT

The whole Tom Parks advertising thing is just a gimmick.
These people are actors working for advertising companies that do
business for the auto industry. Go to several states, and you will
see ol' Tom doing his thing for, say David McDavid Pontiac in Dallas,
Texas, etc.. If you were led to believe Tom, Angie, and now the
young'un are home folks, then you were misled, on purpose. That's the
gimmick, you see.
It's just more advertising Bullsh*t!
By the way, have you noticed the ever escallating number of auto ads??
Can you just imagine what all those ads mean in terms of the price of
that car you want? Thousands of Dollars, my friends, Thousands of
Dollars.
Now, what would you rather have, lower priced cars, or all those ads
on TV, Radio, newsprint, etc.? And you can't blame it on the dealer.
He's just a crook trying to make a crooked deal with you by talking
you our of your rebates, etc..
Enough said??

Painting with a pretty broad brush, aren't you, Sonny?
I found out that Tom Parks was just an actor back in 1991 or 1992. I met
someone who used to work for Atlanta Toyota, and he told me that Tom
would fly in on Tuesday to shoot a full week's worth of commercials.
Then he was off to Texas. Also of interest, before Angie Stevens there
was Charlotte Earls. She was the babe in the commercials with Tom who
just seemed to hold the phone number sign and occasionally said
something like "Come see us!" Well, this person also told me that she
was the sales manager, making $100K a year. She left shortly after that
and went to work at a Toyota dealership in Texas, I believe. I don't
know about Angie, though.
More useless knowledge in case you are ever a contestant on DEBT,
Joey

I'm afraid that's on a "need-to-know" basis and buddy, you don't need to
know. Suffice it to say it involves the witness protection program and
we'll leave it at that.

Oh, yeah? Well what about Mr. Toyota?

She was interviewed on local tv one day and told the story of how Mr.
Toyota "disappeared" one day. A few days later, someone in the
neighborhood called to say Mr. Toyota was in their backyard. When they
came to apprehend him, he ran, then led police on a high-speed chase
before wrecking the car he was driving. Ironically, it wasn't a Toyota.
It seems that I remember a couple of these types who pitch cars on
commercial after commercial, yet didn't really sell cars there. They
did what you describe - fly in and shoot a weeks worth, then fly out.
There was a guy ....I think his name was Dan Walters or something
like that, who went from dealer to dealer across a number of states
making these same type commercials. Remember a blonde haired woman,
nearly middle-aged, from a few years ago who did tons of car
commercials?
She always looked like she had a spring in her neck, because of the way
her head would bounce when she talked.

yeah well, that is true about tom parks flying in each week for the
commercials. but the groomer that works at the vet where i work owns mr
toyota, (the spuds dog) the one in the commercials. she says that mr t
is the worst dog ever. he's over weight, chews up everything. the first
time she brought him home, he ate a lawn chair. atlanta toyota has two
black guys to run him up and down the parking lot for 1 1/2 hours just to
waer him out enough so he'll sit on the hood of the car and not go
crazy. a wise investment if i do say so myself. cheers!
