I personally use the "advanced removal" to make sure all remnants are gone. Revo will also automatically create a new system restore point just in case something gets deleted that shouldn't (i've never had that happen though)
I swear by Revo. I haven't used the windows uninstaller in ages. I recently tried out Ashampoo Uninstaller but that app. was a joke. It was bloated and took forever to install and remove anything. Remove is light and fast and just plain does the job. Highly recommend.
I used Windows to remove IceChat after I could not get it to work months ago and it was only when I was messing around with my scummvm DL that I noticed there was a empty file still left over so I had to manually remove that.
Yes, it's generally MUCH more thorough about removing all the stuff that is usually left over. Ccleaner's uninstaller just uses the normal uninstaller for the programs it lists, which often leave behind a lot.
has anyone had experience uninstalling the new version of spyware doctor? its a pain to uninstall, revo wont do the job either. I managed to keep it with my other layers of protection but im alittle worried how it would hold up because i heard stories that spyware doctor doesnt play well with other programs
lol as i was typing a problem just happened. It is telling me to restart my computer because updates are available. This is trouble right here, i dont want to restart my computer everytime a update is available
I DL'd this and was wondering what level of uninstall do people use? The most advanced one sees to remove things from the reg and I have heard time and time again on here that the reg is not to be tampered with if you do not know what you are doing, Is it safe to use that mode?
The advice about not fooling with the registry is pretty good advice in general. For this though, I use the advanced mode myself, because I still want to get all those orphans out. One of the first things it will do is create a restore point as long as you don't have that option turned off. Just be careful that you ONLY click on the bolded entries. It will show you a whole section of the registry tree and you don't want to click in the wrong place is all. It will typically find entries in the ARP cache that would otherwise be left, but sometimes you would be surprised what it finds as still left in there. My family likes to try a lot of the one hour game trials at one of the online sites and I typically have to install and uninstall over 20 games a month in addition to regular activities. That also ends up fragmenting the registry so I use NTREGOPT or Sysinternals PAGE DEFRAG to get it all back in order. Here's another little trick to keep in mind if you are uninstalling - open windows explorer to C:\Documents and Settings\ - then perform a search with wildcards (*) for the program you are uninstalling. A lot of the built in uninstallers will leave directories and files somewhere in one of the C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data directories. Sometimes it's in the \All Users and sometimes its in the \username directory. Occasionally, they are in both. I've found that Revo will rarely find those. Nor will it find icons in a folder on the desktop. Also be aware that if you use similarly named programs and decide to uninstall one of them, Revo will very occasionally get mixed up and offer to delete the wrong files - just keep an eye on the directory paths it is pointing to and you should be fine.

Which leads me to the question I want to ask. I am running Windows 10 - does CCleaner (both free and Pro versions) install themselves as "native 64-bit programs" when downloaded on a Win 10 computer? I have seen a reference on the Piriform website somewhere to CCleaner being available in both 32 and 64-bit versions, but did not find an answer to my specific question.
I'm trying to decide whether to go to paid versions of both CCleaner and Revo, but want to know as much as I can re how these two will interact (incidentally, I don't plan to use the registry cleaner).
Ccleaner (et al) indeed install as native 64bit (as I understand the statement to mean installed in "program files" folder as opposed to "program files x86" folder) on a 64bit machine. If the machine is 32 bit the 32bit version is of course installed. It reallllllllllllllllly suprises me that revo doesn't fully support 64bit, that's just plain stupid on their part in 2016
Revo Uninstaller Free is however old, it was last updated July 2013 - source. Perhaps the free version is now abandonware, certainly seems that way and it makes it evident the Pro version is required in order to get the newest versions.
It isn't dead, it just seems as though they've abandoned the freeware version while still maintaining and updating the paid Pro version which was last updated December 2015. It's not unusual at all, many freeware titles have followed that route.
Although I have that seemly last freeware version installed it doesn't bother me personally that they've did this as I'm rarely if ever uninstalling software (also rarely if ever installing any either) to even require it.
Just read this article and wanted to update it. Revo Uninstaller Free is definitely still alive and being updated. No, it does seem like between 2013 and 2016 there weren't any updates, but there have been quite a few since. The latest being: MARCH 26, 2018 REVO UNINSTALLER FREEWARE VERSION 2.0.5

Revo Uninstaller free only sees 32 Bit apps. Waterfox is a 64 Bit browser similar to FF. To see and thus uninstall 64 Bit apps you would need the pro version. I suspect the app you are uninstalling is a 64 Bit app.
I would suggest CP, Programs and Features. See if the app is listed there. Uninstall it, then use CCleaner to clean up left overs in the app and registry. Be careful with the registry and only choose those entries that are part of the uninstalled app.
I use Revo Pro and highly recommend it. I especially like the monitored install feature which makes uninstalls go much faster and are more complete. If you do a lot of testing of programs like I do it is a life saver well worth the money IMHO. If you sign up for the Bits du jour newsletter they often have a good deal on Revo Pro as well as other software often recommended here like Macrium Reflect Pro, etc. HTH :cheers:
When uninstalling using Geekuninstaller Geek runs the programs you wish to uninstall built-in uninstaller ( unless you choose force removal option ) and then Geek scans for leftover files and registry items so the user can get more of a cleaner uninstall than just using the Windows built-in option. In my experience of testing both Revo and Geek Revo seemed to scan and find more registry items but that was when I was scanning using the moderate and advanced mode in Revo rather than the safe-mode which is the mode recommended to the average user and the mode I usually use, as we all know deleting registry items willy nilly is not a good idea. When using Revo safe-mode Revo and Geek preformed about the same in finding and deleting leftovers, Geek only has one scan mode.
